Casa da Aboboda is 1 of 6 independent houses on the stunning 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast, w/ a big swimming pool, located in a valley only 5 km from the beach! Restored 2013 using traditional methods combined w/ modern comfort & design. 36 m2
Located in a beautiful valley only 5 km from the beach Odeceixe, Casa da Abobada was restored in 2013 using traditional methods combined with modern comfort. With no kitchen, Casa da Abobada can be described as a big hotel room in the form of a house, since it is only 36 m2 big, with a comfortable double bed (160x200 cm), a mini fridge, espresso machine, a water boiler and a wardrobe. The bathroom with a big, hot shower is made of hydraulic mosaic tiles in blue and white and has an exceptionally high, rounded ceiling. Please note that there is no kitchen in the house.
In front of the main entrance is a 30 m2 patio turned Southeast overlooking the meadow, a glimpse of the stream and the hills on the other side of the valley.
There is no washing machine or dishwasher in the house. If you wish to wash some clothes that can be arranged for you by the housekeeper at a small fee per load.
Casa da Abobada is one of 6 independent houses we have restored so far on the 50 hectares estate Monte West Coast. Here used to be a farm with a water mill and houses for several families, locals know it as Moinho (water mill) Aboboreira.
The river Seixe passes in the middle of the estate, then in front of the town Odeceixe and reaches the ocean 5 km downstream from us, at the outstanding Odeceixe beach (voted one of the Seven Wonders in Portugal).
A heated outdoor swimming-pool with a big sun-deck is at the disposal of all of our guests during the summer. It is located up the hill with a magnificent view of our part of the valley.
We have a big moroccan tent decorated as a lounge in front of the river, and with a little boat anchored next to it. Feel free to use both of them whenever you please.
On the other side of the estate are the farm's animals, among which you will find for example goats, peacocks, ducks, chicken and a cat.
The estate is in a protected area, only 3 km from the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Driving inland from Monte West Coast you reach the mountains Serra de Monchique.
You easily reach Monte West Coast by turning towards Zambujeira de Baixo on the southern (Odeceixe) side of the Odeceixe bridge. This is, you make a right-turn just before the bridge if you are coming from the South, or a left-turn just after the bridge if you are coming from the North. The road then follows the river upstream for exactly 3 km (of which half is asphalt and the other half a dirt road in good conditions) and you have reached your destination. There is an access on the left where you can park your car. Cross the wooden bridge by foot and walk the short stone-paved path to reach the houses.
Interaction with guests
One of the six houses on Monte West Coast is where we spend almost all of our weekends and holidays, so it is very likely we'll be around! If we're not, our housekeeper will be there to give you the keys and help you get you settled.
Other things to note
The houses are cleaned daily by our housekeeper, and the sheets and towels are changed twice a week.
Monte West Coast is managed by our family through our company Patamar Violeta Unip. Lda.
We are convinced that you will behave well, respecting our space as if it was your own.
NOTE: Check in during the day. We ask you to please not arrive after the sunset the first day, since it'll be harder for you to find your way to the house (the area is only sparsely lit up to respect the animals living here. We have utters in the river! A lantern will be on your key-chain or in the house)
I have a swedish mum and a portuguese dad. Moved to Lisbon from Stockholm in 2009. Since we came across Monte West Coast, which now belongs to my husband and me, this is where we spend almost all of our weekends and holidays. We have two sons, born 2010 and 2012, and a daughter born 2016!
