An idyllic bed and breakfast retreat close to the 13th century wool town of Lavenham. After spending the day exploring the sites and delights of Suffolk return to our beautifully situated home and enjoy delicious home-cooked food from our garden.

The space

Our house is a relaxed family home where everyone is welcome. This room is double room with a really comfortable bed and a large private shower room right next door. The room is south-facing and light with stunning views over the garden and meadow beyond. There are tea and coffee facilities and electric radio/alarms

Guest access

Guests have access to the sitting room with a TV and boardgames and a desk if you need to work. Breakfast and dinner are either served here in the bay window overlooking the garden or at a French cherry refectory table in the dining room. The house has a large South facing terrace where guests can have tea, read a book or just enjoy the garden views. You are also welcome to use our all-weather tennis court. We can lend you rackets and balls.

If you are cycling around Suffolk, we have puncture repair kits and a basic workshop to help you service any little repair needed.

Interaction with guests

I love cooking and as well as breakfast, I offer dinner when required. We have a smallholding and a large vegetable garden and whenever possible I use freshly picked homegrown ingredients. I am more than happy to help plan the day's adventure or point you in the right direction of a good place to eat.

This was a perfect B & B. Location, Room and Food were all excellent. Maggie attended to all our needs. Many thanks for an excellent stay.

We enjoyed our 1-night stay in this rural retreat. We were warmly greeted with tea and banana-cake before being taken to our spacious room with a wonderful out over the garden and fields. The bed was comfortable. Although the bathroom was a separate room we could walk in without being seen in our night clothes, as good as ensuite. Maggie was helpful explaining how we could walk across country to Lavenham (1.5 hours) and lent us a detailed map. In short: a real retreat as the only sounds are the birds!

We've stayed in many B&B's but this really is the best ever! Arriving hot and thirsty on our tandem, Maggie gave us a very warm welcome with delicious tea and cake whilst we sat on a window seat entertained by her affectionate Jack Russell overlooking her marvellous spring garden. The elevated setting of the house, at the end of a quiet private lane is stunning. Our room was delightfully decorated with fresh flowers and the bed was very comfortable. The roomy powerful shower was much appreciated too. Delicious breakfasts with home grown produce and convivial company around a big table. After a long bike ride to see a garden in north Essex, Maggie welcomed us back with wine in our room and cooked us a trout with her own veg followed by a big helping of treacle tart and fresh mint tea - perfect! The surrounding countryside and villages are very pretty especially if you take your time to explore on foot or by bike and there are lots of places to eat nearby. Can't imagine anywhere more comfortable, stylish and welcoming for a short break, especially if you arrive by bike. Many thanks for looking after us so well Maggie!

A wonderful stay in Kettlebaston. We were looking for a relaxing get-away and that's exactly what we got! The house is off the beaten track which makes for a very peaceful setting - beautiful views, lovely walks, fresh country air. Maggie was very welcoming and made us feel at home throughout our visit. She cooked us fantastic breakfasts (delicious cooked eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms as well as toast with home made honey, cereals and stewed fruit - yum!) and even left us some lemon drizzle cake when we got back from our walk. She also brought us games to play for a quiet afternoon (and lit a fire for us!) and recommended walking routes and local pubs. We would wholeheartedly recommend this place as a refreshing retreat from urban life!

This certainly is an idyllic rural retreat in a beautiful part of the world. I had high expectations of our stay in what looked to be a lovely B and B but these expectations were well and truely surpassed. Maggie and her family welcomed us into their home and immediately we felt "one of the family". we were helped with maps etc so we could walk/drive and see the nearby historical villages. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious as were the dinners we enjoyed while staying there - prepared with fresh local produce if not from their own garden. The home was a wonderful base for our Suffolk visit and we plan to return for a longer stay.

Thank you so much to Maggie and her family for making us feel so welcome at this lovely secluded property which is a real family home. Our bedroom and bathroom were perfect, and it was a treat to have a comfortable sitting room available for our use. Nothing was too much trouble. The area has so much to see that we'll be returning I'm sure!

Maggie is a wonderful hostess! We were quite worn out with traveling when we got there and she made sure we had everything we needed. The room was lovely, and the house is absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the country setting too. This was definitely the best place we stayed while in England. Thank you so much for a wonderful visit Maggie.

Our children having begun to fly the nest, I thought it would be great to be able to carry on welcoming people to our house by way of bed and breakfast. Please come and stay and see the place we think is a magical place to live.
