Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
Main-floor room with queen-size bed. Private 1/2 bath next to room, with a shared shower on second floor (one or two other Airbnb guests only). Miles of nature trails start 300 ft from our front door.
--Long-term stays are possible after we get to know each other. First reservations can be up to 10 nights.
--My rooms are sometimes more available than their calendars show. Click the "Contact host" button below, send me your dates, and I'll reply quickly. Thank you!

The space
Your room is on the main floor, next to the kitchen, and at the back of the house. You have a private 1/2 bath (toilet and sink) next to your room for convenience, and a shared shower on the second floor (one or two other Airbnb guests only). The doors lock on both bathrooms.
We have no neighbors behind us to interrupt your view of the wetland and the woods beyond. With your windows open in the spring and summer, you'll hear red-wing blackbirds, orioles, and chickadees in the early morning, tree frogs in the evening, and owls late at night.
Your room has a table so you can work efficiently on your laptop. Use the mini-fridge to keep your beverages, snacks, and left-overs cold, and the microwave to heat things up. On the table are a coffee maker/water heater and a toaster, so you can fix yourself coffee, tea, or instant cocoa anytime, plus toast or bagels with peanut butter or jam (all provided).
You'll also find individual cereals on the shelf, and yogurt, milk, and a selection of juices in the mini-fridge.
Next to the table is an armchair and floor lamp, for those quiet times when you want to read but aren't in bed yet!

Your bedroom has thermal-barrier window drapes plus ...
--Summer: A three-speed ceiling fan and an oscillating, three-speed desk fan. Guests have never reported that any of the fans are noisy.
--Late fall, winter, and early spring: Flannel bedding and two extra blankets in the closet. I’m happy to use regular cotton bedding instead, if you prefer!

And your bathroom has ...
--During warm weather: An oscillating, three-speed fan you can put on the floor or counter.
--During cold weather: A thermostat-controlled space heater.

Guest access
—Please note that the living room and kitchen are not shared spaces. My home office is in a corner of the living room and I tend to work at all hours. And the kitchen is quite small, and not set up for sharing with guests.
—Feel free to relax on our front porch, on our deck, or in our back yard.
—You're welcome to use our main-floor laundry room (washer and dryer) for $4 a load each machine, cash up front. Exception: No oily or heavily soiled work clothes.
—Parking is either up in the driveway or on our side of the street right in front of the house. The city prohibits overnight street parking from November through March so the snow plows can do their thing. During those months, we'll coordinate the two driveway spots to make sure that we all can come and go when we need to.

Other things to note
—I'm almost always here for check-in. If I'm not here, you'll find the house key in a convenient place and I'll send you additional information by text.
—We have a permanent tenant on our lower level, whom you might meet in the driveway coming and going. She has her own private entry from the backyard patio (one story under our deck), has no access to the rest of the house, and does not share the deck.
—Ideally, you're comfortable with pets, because we have a full-size collie and an indoor-outdoor cat.
—If you're traveling with a service or support animal, please be aware that our collie is territorial with other dogs, and our cat is not friendly to other cats.

Hello, and thank you for clicking this far! Hosting on Airbnb satisfies something very basic in my nature, and meeting people through this platform has been enriching my life since March '14. Airbnb suggests that we share a motto here, and mine is "Life is a guest house" (Rumi). My actual job is teaching technical communication at two or three schools, depending on their need. My work week is divided almost evenly between my office at one of the schools and working from home. Outside of work, I like to spend time reading, trying to exercise enough, walking my dogs, being a personal assistant to my cat, and planning my next trip. I like to garden in the summer and don't complain too much about shoveling snow in the winter. Enough about me--I look forward to learning a little about you! Hoping to help you have a great Airbnb experience, ~Dorian

During your stay
—We have two bedrooms on Airbnb, this one on the main floor and another upstairs, so chances are you'll encounter another guest during your stay.
—We (family) never use your private half-bathroom that's right next to your room, but for your showers, you'll need to go up one floor to the guest bathroom upstairs. We (family) never use that bathroom either; but when the Airbnb room up there is booked, the other guest uses that bathroom (lock on door). There's a schedule on that bathroom's door to reserve shower times.
—I often work from home, so will likely be around during the day. However, our main floor is laid out in such a way that you'll probably only see me when you want to.
—If you're a deck lover, we might be sharing some time on the deck.
