Huge Victorian house in vibrant Brixton, 12 mins to Oxford Street/central London by tube. Feels like a country house, surrounded by several gardens. Large, bright modern rooms with wooden floors, vintage finds and retro touches. Simple breakfast inc.

The space

Large, bright double in this huge Victorian house with modern retro feel. Painted floors, vintage treasures and a wonderful 'secret garden' to explore. 5 minutes to central Brixton with it's vibrant markets, restaurants and funky independent shops. 7 minutes by tube to Victoria, 10 to Oxford Street.

This room is on the first floor and has a double bed, desk, wardrobe, bookshelves, and day bed. Close to the room is a wet room with power shower and a separate toilet. Fresh linen and fluffy towels provided.
There is WiFi throughout the house.
We offer a simple breakfast of locally roast coffee, granola and our homemade marmalade for you to help yourself.

It's a large 3 story house filled with vintage curious, books and art. What makes the house extra special is a large very secluded garden with fruit trees, wild flowers and raised beds for growing vegetables. A true urban oasis! You are welcome to have breakfast in the garden, relax in the hammock, or sunbath on the lawn should the weather permit!

We have four double bedrooms to choose from (these can be booked for together for special occasions by request) (this room)

Guest access

It's a big house with plenty of different spaces to meet others or be private. You will have access to a guest lounge & TV room, a breakfast room with fridge. There is a washing machine & drier if you need to do laundry. We have 2 bathrooms - a wet room with open shower, a separate toilet on the same floor and another bathroom on the top floor with both bath and modern shower. Our kitchen is often used for our food related business, so its not normally available to guests for cooking. There are literally hundreds of great little places to eat in Brixton, right on the doorstep and in the market.

Interaction with guests

Depending on your arrival time will meet you either at the house or Brixton Tube then show you around the house and garden. Most days we are at our shop & restaurant Brixton Village Market - we are happy for you to pop in during the day (we are near the tube) to ask advice or join us for a coffee. We can give you an insiders guide to Brixton Village, recommend great local places to eat and curious places off the beaten track for you to visit. In the house you may meet other guests, our lovely housemate Jenny or Dino our cat who though a little shy will often join you in the garden.

Check in: 1pm -10pm
Please check if you want to check in outside these hours.
Early arrivals: you are welcome to come and drop off your bags from 9am onwards. If the room is ready (no guests the previous night) you can often check in before 1pm, just ask.

Late arrivals: We can sometimes make an exception, but we don't generally accept arrivals after 10pm as it is disruptive for other guests. If you have a flight arriving after 8.30/9pm, it is unlikely you will make it to our house before 10pm.

Check in is by advance arrangement at a time suitable to both parties - we try to be as flexible as possible with check in to fit with guests travel plans - but this does not mean 'anytime'. If you arrive at a time not previously agreed you may not find us home.

We like to check in guests ourselves and show them around the house and garden, though are times when we are both working, both away when our housemate Jenny or a friend will be there to welcome you instead.

Check out
Is 11am or before, after which we need to clean and get the room ready for future guests. You need to leave keys in the room door and remove any bags, though it is often possible for you to leave bags downstairs to collect later.

It was lovely to stay at Anne's, a very original room, a cozy house and great surroundings. Will definitely come back next time I'm on the area.

We enjoyed our (second) stay with Anne and Ian. Their home is comfortable, welcoming and close to everything we needed- transport, restaurants, shops; with good access to other parts of London by bus and tube. The self-service breakfast is efficiently set out and provided everything we wanted. A great stay. Hope to visit again.

Lovely stay with Anne and Ian up on Britton hill, highly recommended. The hosts are very accommodating and think of all the little touches that make a stay comfortable, it is clear they know what they are doing. Had a lovely chat with Ian and he even helped me make some photocopies of important docs that I needed for an upcoming trip. The room itself was great, I had some work to do and the desk and space were very comfortable. The bed was also quite comfy. Note that the house is vintage, so you will likely hear neighbors and other guests through the walls and squeaky floorboards. This did not bother me or detract from my stay at all--just something to keep in mind. Be sure to wander around a look at all the cool stuff they've accumulated from around the world! Thanks again Ian and Anne.

Beautiful room in a wonderful house. Ian gave some great recommendations for places to eat nearby. Comfortable, very clean and tastefully designed. All in all, it was a very pleasant stay - looking forward to a repeat visit very soon.

My background is in design and innovation and my partner Ian is a chef. We have a little restaurant in Brixton Village market and a shop selling useful, beautiful and curious things for the home. We like gardening, growing food & eating it. We travel a fair bit and have had some great experiences through Airbnb. We are really looking forward to being hosts ourselves and helping people explore Brixton and our favourite 'secret' bits of London.
