Nestled in beautiful West Coast native bush. So much more than just a place to sleep - toast marshmallows around your own private fire, grab a bike and ride the West Coast Wilderness trail, kayak on our little lake! The Nest is a stand alone fully self contained unit with outdoor bath and shower.

Set on 15 acres of private land, own lake, historic water race, and the Kaniere River are on your doorstep. Live like a local for a little while.

The space
Located close (but seperate) to the main house, the Nest is your own fully self contained slice of the property during your stay. Our small lake and a private fire pit are just steps from your door. You can take advantage of the lake with our kayaks, and can spend the evening toasting marshmallows by the fire pit.

Inside the Nest you will find everything you need for cooking, including hotplates, microwave, fridge, pots, pans, bowls, plates, cutlery, and some essential basics (oil, salt, pepper etc). Breakfast during your stay is on us - We provide a complimentary continental breakfast as well as fresh coffee, roasted on site. Please tell us when you book if you have dietary requirements so that we can try to accommodate them. Without notice we can't promise we'll be able to accommodate any specific requests.
There is also a BBQ/grill available on request.

The main room of the Nest has a queen bed, breakfast bar, and space to hang your clothes. There is also a couch that can be converted into a bed, please let us know in advance if you'd like to do this, there is a $15 charge for additional linens. The toilet and hand basin are inside the Nest, while the shower/bath is outside behind the unit in a completely private area. Enjoy soaking in the tub with a glass of wine, while under the stars and surrounded by nature.

We highly recommend checking out the surrounding area during your stay. There are many great bush walks around, and we are lucky enough to be located right on the West Coast Wilderness Cycle Trail.

Lake Kaniere is a 30-45 minute bike ride from Hurunui Jacks, and we have 2 bikes available on site for our guests to use, so you can enjoy a slice of the trail, with the picturesque lake at the end as your reward.

If you like the sound of the Wilderness Trail and Lake Kaniere - but not so much the 30-45 minute bike ride to get there, we have teamed up with Cycle Journeys located in Hokitika town centre to offer eBike rentals for our guests, making the bike ride to the lake easy work! If you’re interested in renting an eBike, please let us know when you book the Nest.

Being on the West Coast, we are home to quite a few native birds. You’re likely to see Weka, Pukeko, Robins, Bell birds, Tom Tits, Tui and Swallows during your stay (to name a few!). On the property we also have our own animals, two cats (Gracie and Max), a goat (Biddy), and three white ducks.

The Nest is situated in a peaceful rural environment just 12kms from Hokitika. It is close to Lake Kaniere, Dorothy Falls and the stunning Hokitika Gorge. At Kaniere, about 8km towards town, there is a local garage/gas station, a butchers and a good local pub (they do a great Sunday roast). Other than that all amenities/shops/supermarket etc. are in Hokitika.

We moved to the West Coast in 2018 and are loving living in our own slice of paradise. Originally from Dunedin. Wendy is a coffee roaster and roasts on site, and Fletch looks after the property, animals and enjoys woodworking in the shed. We're always keen for a chat, and look forward to sharing our place with you.
