The Valley Hut is tucked into a totally private, open, grassy valley and surrounded by bush clad hills. It’s easily accessible by car and has plenty of parking. It faces a 30 metre waterfall, glimpsed through the trees from the hut, which can be heard tumbling down to the meandering stream flowing through the valley.
On a clear night you can look up to the crystal stars of the Milky Way and listen to the NZ owls calling sweetly to each other.
Please also check out our Shepherd’s hut on Airbnb.

The space
It has a completely self contained kitchen which includes a fridge, gas hob top, a microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee pot and out door BBQ.
You will need to bring all the food you require as we are 30 minutes from the nearest shopping facilities in Whangarei.
We provide milk, tea, coffee and condiments.
One bedroom is in a separate room with a door and has a queen sized bed. The other two single mattresses are in the open loft space accessed by fold down ladder type stairs.
We also provide good quality linen, towels and tea towels.
The bathroom has a toilet and shower in a separate room with a door.
We have a portable hot tub available for guest use. It’s an extra $40 for a full gas bottle for the hot tub ( gives several days worth of heating and which would need to be booked on arrival or by message request )

Guest access
We have just put WIFI in the Valley Hut.

We have a laundry situated under our Woolshed that you are welcome to use for a small fee. It consists of a washing machine, dryer, clothes line, iron and ironing board.

We also have a pizza oven at the Woolshed and a movie screen if guests would like to have a night of pizza and a movie depending on availability. For a small fee.

It is a working farm but our guests are welcome to all parts of the farm as long as they respect some basic requirements like shutting gates and not disturbing the animals. Guests also need to be aware that there are dangers like unfenced waterways and steep areas of land with regenerating forest so they would need to stay on the roads or tracks.

Other things to note
We are 3.6 kms along Kaiikanui Rd is a windy and unsealed road.

It can be quite changeable weather so you need to bring warm clothes, sun hats, wet weather gear and good boots/gum boots ( if you are planning on doing any walking )

We are a kiwi couple, Jim and Susie. We have the wonderful opportunity, at a time in our lives when many are retiring, to get involved, along with our extended family, in a beautiful 400 acre property in Northland, NZ. We are passionate about looking after the land and are involved in trapping and regeneration of the forest and for the birdlife and for future generations. We’ve also traveled fairly extensively and used Airbnb and loved meeting people that way. We also hosted an Airbnb in Auckland for a time and that was a wonderful experience as well. We hope to share our extraordinary good fortune to be in this stunning part of the world with all those who venture here. We look forward to meeting you.
