Farm Stay on the Kapiti Coast. The old workshop has been converted into a beautiful warm quiet and lusciously comfortable studio. Private from the farmhouse but in the middle of the farm area. You are welcome to explore the farm and feed the animals. 15 minutes walk to a swimming hole in the cleanest river in the Wellington region.

The space
The main studio room and the BBQ terrace that lead off it have the best views on the property. Looking over the small vineyard, down the animal race and out to sea where the sun sets. The studio has been renovated with polished concrete floors, natural fabrics, luxurious bedding and comfortable furniture. In cooler months the fire will be set ready to light on your arrival, and warm evenings can be spent around the BBQ on your private terrace and adding freshly picked herbs and lemons to your drinks.

There are two beautiful queen beds, one in the main studio room, and one in a small additional bedroom.

Guest access
Whether you're here for a romantic getaway, a family farm adventure or a relaxing detox, this is the perfect space for you to enjoy. Explorations of the farm can be arranged where you can feed the animals and check out the orchards and vegetable garden. This walk covers several animal areas, developing native conservation areas, an orchard, vegetable garden and a pretty pond that feeds the farm's irrigation systems.

Where you’ll be

Hautere, Wellington, New Zealand

We are up the Otaki Gorge, off State Highway 1 and through a tunnel of Totaras. We are across a swing bridge just by the swimming hole. Otaki River is the cleanest and one of the most beautiful in the Wellington Region. The small community our side of the river is comprised of small farms, art spaces and retreat centres. Down in Te Horo town 10km away there is a gorgeous lavender farm and shop and the Ruth Pretty cooking school where you can enjoy coffee and cakes in her conservatory. And further afield in Otaki or Waikanae you can enjoy more treatment rooms, shopping, eating and even a local brewery.

Happy traveller now settled down with a lovely family on a small farm on the Kapiti Coast. I love outdoor adventure, good food, and company. My favourite Airbnb experience was on honeymoon in Tuscany, Italy. We stayed in a solid old barn on the hills of Chianti, day tripped to local markets and vineyards, and watched the sunset over the olive groves of the farm. There was a family living upstairs in the barn but we never saw them except when the grandma dropped in freshly made apricot jam from their own trees, or the dad dropped in a bowl of their seasonal produce. I hope guests at our own simple Farm Stay experience a similar level of relaxation and pure enjoyment of life that we felt there.
