Our cottage is set in the countryside approx. 13km from Galway city, and 40 minutes drive from Connemara. It is a pre-famine cottage that has been simply modernised. Enjoy the quiet countryside while visiting the city and beaches nearby.

The space

This is small renovated, rustic cottage, with lots of charm. There are lovely country walks nearby, as well as outdoor areas for enjoying the peace and quiet and watching the swallows - some of which live in our shed!

Guest access

There are two bedrooms, one twin/double upstairs, one double downstairs. We have one bathroom with a shower. Large kitchen, separate dining room, and separate living room. Log fire. Outdoor seating to watch the lovely sunsets (hopefully)! Upstairs room is accessed via a ladder stairs, so may not be suitable for people with limited mobility, and has a hatch door in the floor.

Interaction with guests

In the summer we live in the art studio across the yard, so contact will be minimal, whenever required, for chats, advice etc. Continental breakfast for the week will be supplied, so you will not be disturbed in the mornings.

Other things to note

Our cottage is not suitable for children, and access to the upstairs room may be problematic for some (see ladder photo). We supply fresh orange juice, museli, homemade soda bread, eggs, milk etc. The cottage has exposed stone walls so may be a bit dusty for people with allergies. The twin room does not have black out windows, so a bright room in the morning. Suitable location for those who enjoy fishing!

Warm and completely hospitable welcome, which included a raging fire ready for the arrival of 2 cold and wet guests who had been completely drenched at the cliffs of Moher. Our needs we're completely catered for with charm and thoughtfulness. The cottage was a superb experience. To be highly recommended.

Thanks Catherine for your kind words. I hope the rest of your trip went well, and that your heritage research has been fruitful. Best wishes to Pip also on her continued OE (overseas experience I think its called!). I hope you enjoyed the archaeology in Sligo too.

With the warmest welcome, Annie and Jim welcomed us to their absolutely lovely cottage. With so much personality, the home is just what we needed on our journey. 20 mins out of Galway and only a little over an hour from County Mayo with the Killary fjords and many mountain hikes and beach peninsula in the Connemara, we loved every minute of our stay. Annie went above and beyond to make our stay so incredible with all the amenities you need and more. A lovely assortment for breakfast and an even lovelier front/backyard landscape to enjoy while you simply relax. Highly recommend to anybody !!!

Our stay at the Artist's Cottage was magical. A rainbow was even hovering over the cottage as we pulled up. Annie and Jim greeted us and oriented us to their eclectic, artistic, creative home and garden. The two bedroom cottage was plenty of space for our family. Though our kids are right at the cutoff age and handled the loft stairs, I would recommend sticking with the 12 and older recommendations as there are steep stairs and lots of beautiful art and breakables about to be respected and enjoyed. They had the fridge stocked and supplied tons of maps and recommendations for our day trips. We truly hope to make it back again someday. I already miss watching the birds in the garden. Thank you!

Thank you Jodi for your lovely review..and hope indeed you do make it back some day...we are conscious that our house is not very child friendly, and indeed not ideal for much older as well...but it's more about parents not being anxious and worrying about curious youngsters...twas not an concern at all..all the best, Annie

The welcome by Anne and Jim has been excellent, we have been informed about which places to visit and the supermarkets close to the house, very friendly and generous. Your house is a great place and warm. We liked it very much,

Annie and Jims cottage is tucked down a quiet road just outside of Galway city and is surrounded by nature and animals. Annie and Jim went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic stay. The cottage is a beautifully restored historic building with plenty of quirky art, great books and a lovely glasshouse to sit in, drink wine and watch the sun go down. Annie and Jims cottage and meeting them was a highlight of our trip to Galway. Highly recommended.
