Located 15 blocks north of the river and downtown: welcome to my backyard tiny house!
A cozy 170 sqft plus sleeping loft, I've converted my original 1933 garage into an inner-city respite. Perfect for adventurers wanting to explore inner-city Calgary with easy access to the Trans-Canada, Banff, & the Airport. An avid traveller myself, I've set the suite up with everything I'd need while travelling and exploring a new city: comfortable bed, speedy wifi, and morning coffee (OK, tea too).

The space
A long-term AIRBNB host (check my reviews for the other two listings on this property), I am now sharing my writing studio perched at the back of my property.

The tiny house is completely independent and has its own entrance from the backyard, please make yourself at home in our garden area. It's perfect for sunbathing, barbecuing, and hanging out at night around the fire table.

The kitchenette is equipped to whip up meals with an induction plate and toaster oven. The fridge is located under the counter in the cupboard. The kitchen has basic spices, condiments, etc. so you're already started. We provide tea and coffee supplies (and a french press) so help yourselves.

The bed in the sleeping loft is a queen and is a memory foam mattress. The skylight over the bed means you can spend the morning watching the squirrels jumping in the trees overhead.

The TV has Netflix and Crave (HBO) so you can also hunker down inside and rest/restore.

Guest access
Guests have access to the suite through a convenient and private entrance, the tiny house is its own building. During their stay, guests have access to the backyard area with BBQ, fire table, and apple tree. The whole suite is yours with everything you need during your stay. The backyard space is shared with us (and other AIRBNB guests staying in the house's lower suite) with full access to lounge about as long as the weather is good (May - September generally)!

Other things to note
The tiny house is designed with sustainability in mind so please be mindful of water use (piping hot showers have a max length of approximately six minutes) and use only the soaps and shampoos we provide for your stay.

The waterless compost toilet is easy to use and if used properly is guaranteed no smell. Google "Separett Compost Toilet" if you want to see videos and reviews.

Please let us know immediately if something is broken, requires fixing, or needs cleaning. We'll attend to it right away!

We love our eclectic inner-city neighbourhood, with everything you could desire within a ten minute walk. It's gentrifying but still full of local restaurants and markets that won't be found in Calgary's endless suburban sprawl. We are especially stoked about the new craft brewery and cidery that has opened just three blocks away.

The best coffee and bakery (Parisian AIRBNB guest approved) in the city is a four minute drive away (I've timed it down to the second) or a healthy jaunt down the hill to the river. Edmonton Trail's breakfast/brunch row is a ten minute walk away, as is our favourite place for Italian aperitif happy hour. The best Vietnamese hole-in-the-wall is three blocks away and the my favourite falafel with homemade garlic sauce is just a few blocks more. North Indian curry is just across the street and sushi is just a block over. The Calgary institution, Peter's Drive-In, is right across the street. What do you want to eat? We'll send you there!

If you're in the mood for cooking Safeway is 2 blocks away and Lina's Italian Market is five blocks.

I'm an architect and I love food, so I've made a walking map leaving from our place of my favourite spaces, vistas, and food. Ask and I'll share, it's my favourite way to spend a day in Calgary.

As a life-long travel junkie I was an early adopter of AIRBNB, first as a guest then as a host. I’ve enjoyed AIRBNB hospitality on six of the seven continents (Antarctica still to come someday, somehow) and am always grateful for the generous hosts who have opened up their homes to me and allowed me to stay as a local. This is the same spirit I approach AIRBNB hosting. Right now I'm based in Calgary where manfriend and I have a tiny house and lower-suite we share with the world. AIRBNB allows me to satisfy my travel itch when I'm in Canada. Currently I'm working on my PhD situated in the intersection of social justice and architecture. If it involves ideas or creating something, I'm into it. Manfriend is a jazz musician, martial artist, and logistician. If you're interested in any of these things we always have a bottle of wine to chat over, especially if it's summer and the backyard patio is calling!
