Come and stay with us above the western shores of Lake Taupo. Relax in the rural surroundings, enjoy the rural, lake and mountain views, good fly fishing nearby, walk or ride part of the Great Lake Cycle trail or visit a nature walk close to us

The space

Enjoy the tranquillity on a farm block above the western bays of Lake Taupo. Laze in a hammock under the trees, play with Harri and Charlie the dogs, talk to the alpacas or just chill out and relax.

Guest access

Guests have own room with en suite bathroom, tea/coffee making facilities and use of the laundry facilities.
Continental breakfast is included.
We are able to provide cooked breakfasts, and dinners and lunches if required - additional costs apply and prior notice is required.

Interaction with guests

We love sharing a meal or sitting and chatting - we are happy to transport to and from the local walking and cycling tracks. Harri the dog adores people (and she thinks they adore her). The alpacas are friendly and you can try hour hand at feeding them.

Stunning location, but not a 'real home stay' experience. Crap bed, lumpy pillows and average welcome. You need to really enjoy welcoming people to be in this business, we didn't really feel that.

Response from Cathy:
We are sorry that Rachel & Tom did not enjoy their stay. This is contrary to feedback we have received from other guests. We are disappointed that they did not come to the house for a cup of tea as invited, instead choosing to pull the curtains and close themselves off for a couple of hours. Some of the concerns they raised could have been dealt with at the time, had they communicated with us. We had made a birthday cake for Rachel but as they did not come into the house, we were unable to present it to her. They also chose not to have breakfast. We note that Rachel has not been an Airbnb member for long, so perhaps a few more Airbnb stays will allow her to adjust her expectations. Apart from their negative feedback, they did leave the room in a tidy state which was appreciated.

Absolutely loves it. A warm welcome from Cathy and Craig with introducing their two dogs and puppies as well. They are just adorable. Very enjoyable cup of tea with stunning view and a good conversation inside their lovely home. Its such a joyful and peaceful place, its way better then any retreat i have been to. You can just sit at the deck, let the cool breeze at you during the sunset and take your mind in peace. i do enjoy every single moments of it. The room that we stay is spotless. Cathy is very informative and helpful as she recommends many activities, walks and scenery around the area. In the next day, breakfast of cereals and toast was tasty. After that Cathy and Craig showed us their lovable pets then we off our journey back home.

This cute home is perfect to get away and get out into the countryside! Cathy and Craig were amazing hosts and we loved talking to them. Their dog Harri was a blast, and we got to feed the alpacas in the morning! We would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

Only minutes away from Taupo but a world away from it's crowds, commercialism and traffic noise. What an incredibly beautiful, serene, peaceful & relaxing, in short, idyllic, place Cathy has. Stunning views are everywhere! Cathy & Craig are lovely, welcoming hosts. Dinner was DELICIOUS and plentiful, as was breakfast. Our room was cozy and comfortable with a great shower. Beyond the lovely property, hiking/cycling opportunities abound. We chose a country walk past Cathy's alpacas, through meadows of sheep and cows, to a micro-climate rainforest trail that descended to the lake. Soooo beautiful. We highly recommend this gem.

Cathy and her family provided me and my girlfriend with a great evening full of food and company. They took us in fairly last minute for NYE, which we really appreciated and really enjoyed our evening at theirs. The room is very clean and private, with an UNBELIEVABLE view. They have alpacas too! Seriously recommend them!

We were made to feel very welcome by Cathy and Craig and absolutely loved the spectacular, breathtaking location with panoramic views over Lake Taupo and towards the distant mountains. The room was really comfortable and in beautiful order. Cathy gave us helpful information on places to visit during our short stay - particularly the thermal baths at Tokaanu, which were great fun, and where I could find a possum wool cardigan in Taupo! We really enjoyed our brief stay, will return if we are in that area again, and would recommend Moana Roa Lodge to anyone.

We moved back to the country in late 2012. We have a 15 acre block which a neighbour grazes with sheep and cattle. We have an Old English Sheepdog who loves people. We have lots of books, we are keen on gardening, we like doing some of the walks around us. I am a keen photographer, I enjoy cooking and wine and friends and family
