"5 stars are not enough. The location was exactly what we were looking for in choosing to stay in West Iceland: beautiful, scenic, and peaceful. The cabin is well-appointed for being a perfectly cozy home base and the stove kept the place plenty warm. The mountains behind the property were coated in snow, making for a gorgeous backdrop and on top of everything, we got to enjoy the Northern Lights from the front porch, all to ourselves. Thank you Kristján for providing such an amazing experience!"Kristján’s was great! Lots of great information (we bought some fresh salmon and fresh bread) places to buy local food. Perfect directions to the small house on top of the hill. Wish we could have stayed longer. It was had to leave and go exploring...just to cozy sitting and looking out the window!!! And what a view...I swear it's like the valley is a river for the Northern Lights!! They flowed down the valley right out to the ocean. Words can't describe the lights that swirled and dance above us light a portal to another (URL HIDDEN) cool! But really....a nice place..try to spend a few nights on your trip and just relax at this place. We are glad we did!!!"

Only 125 km (75 mi) from Reykjavík, Kolsstaðir is located over 200 m above sea level,on more than 500 acres of unspoiled nature, surrounded by mountains, remote valleys, horses (part of the year) and foxes rarely seen. Due to Kolsstaðir high location (200m/660ft above sea level), it has a magnificent view out to the ocean and into the mountain valleys where horses and sheep roam all summer. Occasionally the arctic fox can be seen and often heard. It takes around 15 minutes to drive to Budardalur, a small village where you can shop all necessities.

(see photos).

Guests can arrive when they like after 15:00.
A 4WD vehicle is necessary to get to Kolsstaðir during the winter.
We recommend a visit to the seashore nearby for birdwatching and occasional seal - and to Erpstadir farm that produce their own dairy products as well as a tour around Snæfellsnes and other see worthy places in the west. See (URL HIDDEN)

This place truly is magical. The photos don't even do it justice! With free roaming horses and sheep, your view is of the mountains and you can hear the nearby waterfall. The house was extremely clean when we arrived, Kristján leaves the most helpful guidebook. The ice cream shoppe/dairy farm is a MUST. This place is worth every penny!!

We loved our stay at Kristjans place. The landscape around the house is so beautiful with all the different colors that changes during the day. The sunsets are magnificent! Our children loved the horses and to play outside. They are very curious and some of them liked to be stroked. The house itself is very cozy. @Kristjan thanks to your neighbour that he solved our problem with toilet door because of our own stupidity. We gave him one the beers you put in het fridge.

We enjoyed our stay in Kristjan's place. It is a very cute cabin that is secluded. There are sheep and horses that hang out near the house so our son loved seeing them. The cabin itself was very clean and had everything we needed. Would recommend to everyone!

This is quite simply, one of the most enchanting places I've ever stayed. We felt immediately at home, and we counted ourselves so fortunate to have such a great place to come back to every night after hours of Icelandic adventures! The horses and sheep were all around, and came up to say hello at times. The trails right off the house were remote and amazing, as was the house itself! The 360 degree views were something to behold, it was hard to even leave everyday as there was so much beauty to take in there (it was equally hard to go to sleep at night for the same reason). The house was so clean and accommodating, it had everything we needed and more. The bed was comfortable and inviting, we slept so well while at Kolsstadir! Kristjan was a gracious host, giving us car rental and other travel tips when requested in a friendly and timely fashion. He also had lots of information to explore the location around Kolsstadir, which we took advantage of. If you want a peaceful, beautiful, inspiring location to call home away from home, I couldn't imagine a better place than Kolsstadir!

What a beautiful stay ! We can't recommend Kristjans Cabin enough - it was without a doubt a trip highlight. It was everything we wished for our Iceland experience and more ! We were lucky to have warm, still, sunny days so spent time wandering the land or reading by the stream, or enjoying the local thermal pool with not another human in sight ! Fantastic facilities to cook and enjoy the Cabin and sit and soak up the stunning view. We can't wait to return, thank you Kristjan for opening up your place for us to all enjoy ! Bayleigh & Paul.
