A western style room in a traditional and characterful Japanese home.
This is suitable for home-stay students wanting to improve their Japanese with our Japanese host, included tea ceremony and plentiful in-room manga.
Free parking also included!

The space

This room is for students wanting to learn about the Japanese culture more.

The host is Japanese, so you can practice your Japanese language skills and get a real home stay experience!

This room is ideal for long term stays of 7 days or more (the price lowers once you book this length of stay).

We have lovely room for you!
It includes a desk, real bed, storage space and a book stand packed with manga and Japanese books. Any additional people (up to 3 can sleep in the room) staying in the room will have futons.

This listing is for your own room in a beautiful and characteristic Japanese house in Sendai, Miyagi.

The house has 6 bedrooms, fantastic gardens, a classical style Japanese tea room where you can experience a real Japanese tea ceremony from a tea master (English not available for this unfortunately, the tea master (who is also the home owner) only speaks Japanese) included in the stay price!

Walking distance nearby there is a supermarket (10 minute walk), convenience store (15 mins), Japanese restaurant (15 mins), and a Korean restaurant (8 mins).

You will have access to the bathroom (shower, bath with power jets, cold water bath, sauna), toilet (also separate urinal), living room, fully equipped kitchen with fridge space available upon request.

☆ Free WiFi broadband internet and DIY laundry is available.

The kitchen, bathroom & living room will also be used by the home owners and other guests, however you will often have the place to yourself.

If some or all of this sounds good to you, please get in touch with us, and we'll be happy to help you.

Guest access

Guests have access to their room, the living room, kitchen, dining area, utility and make up room, bathroom and associated facilities. The parking area and gardens are also available for guests to use. The tea rooms are usually only there for your welcoming tea ceremony.

The house may have other guests staying the same time you are so other guest rooms are usually off limits.

The amenities are shared with other guests and the house owner, so it is preferred that you ask to make sure it is available before using (for example the washing machine). There is a separate toilet upstairs and 2 downstairs as well as a urinal.

Interaction with guests

Harue will be able to help guests when she can as she lives in Sendai (although a different area). Robert is usually working abroad but can answer complicated matters via e-mail.

One of Harue's parents (Sumio & Mitsue) will likely be there is assist if required, however their foreign language ability (non-Japanese) is low, so e-mail assistance is usually advised for any complicated matters.

Sumio (Harue's father) is a tea master and provides the complimentary welcome tea ceremony for guests which has been enjoyed by many guests. It's usually performed after you've arrived and settled, or the next day if you are arriving late.

Other things to note

Please arrive between 3pm and 9pm if possible, although we'll try to be flexible to your needs. Public transport gets difficult after this time frame and taxi prices go up significantly too.

Guest rooms all have heaters/air conditioners, WiFi and electricity outlets.

Please be respectful and be aware the house is used as a normal residential house usually.

Please clean up after yourself (any use of kitchen or food in guest rooms), provided supplies used such as towels are to be placed in the washing machine after use.

Please keep the volume down after 10:30pm.

No pets allowed unless permission is given first, please ask! Smoking is not allowed inside the house, but OK outside. Alcohol is allowed.

Eating in the guest rooms is allowed, but please be careful to prevent crumbs / liquids falling on the tatami mats, as they are difficult to clean. Guest rooms should have tables available for this.

This is such a great cultural experience. The tea ceremony was one of the best experiences we have had in Japan and are so grateful for Sumio-San taking good care of us. The tea ceremony makes this stay a great one. Thank you for your kindness and willingness to share with us. The house has lots of character and is spacious. It is however an older home and shows signs of use.

It's a nice large house with a wonderful garden and lawn for games. The tea ceremony was magical and the host was really nice. I spent most of the days visiting the forrests and parks around the area.

Harue's home was fantastic. Your Father was such a great host who shows so much detail in the tea ceremony. Lovely home that is as traditional as it gets! 5 Star!

Our stay was amazing. The host and hostess were extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful. Despite the language barrier, they went the wxtra mile to explain things to us and help us (including letting us do our wash in their home). The accomodation is very comfortable and beautiful. Our only comment would be that the bus instructions to getting to the house were confusing to us and we ended up getting off too early.

Harue User ProfileHarue is a superhost.

Harue is a designer and illustrator from Sendai, she is married to Robert who is a writer and an electronic engineer from Portsmouth in the UK.

We met in Tokyo and got married a year after that and lived in Saitama for a while. We now both live in the UK.

We manage 2 houses, One is the house is owned by Harue's parents, Mitsue and Sumio who is a Japanese tea master, and they will host you during your AirBnB stay, however we will offer support remotely up to and during your stay. The second is owned by some friends who are happy to be known as Momma and Poppa.

We like to travel and eat far too much and look forward to you joining us in Sendai!
