This recently restored stone barn stands alone in spectacular mountain setting at the entrance to the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park. Access is via the track that leads to the start of Ibon de Sen walk near San Juan de Plan.

The space

From village, it is a 10kms drive along a mountain piste, better to have 4x4 but also practicable by car taking it slowly.

On entering the barn, you have the living room and kitchen seperated by a high counter. A passage way leads to the two bedrooms with beds measuring 135cms. Each bedroom also has a foldaway single bed. There is a bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. Outside the entrance door, there is a grassy area with table, parasol and chairs.

The electricity in the barn functions with solar energy. Gas heats the water. The barn is available for rent from spring to autumn.

From the barn, there is a path that leads to the Sen lake and another that descends to the village of San Juan de Plan. Either by foot or in 4 wheel drive, the track that leads to the barn continues to Plan de l’Abet then descends through the Selva forest to Viadós coming out again in San Juan de Plan.

All the services are in San Juan de Plan and Plan: restaurants, bars, public swimming pool, health centre, chemist, shops, tourist office…

We really loved this special place. The views are amazing. You can walk to two very beautiful lakes from the house in about 2 hours and you can walk down to the village in 1.5 hours. We did both with our children (7 and 10) and they loved it! If you have a normal car like we do, you might want to stack up on groceries as the road is pretty rough. The house is cosy and the owners José and his wife who live in the village are very friendly when we checked in and out. We liked the stone barn a lot! Jayne was very helpfull arranging everything.

This place is a charm. The interior of the barn is simple but all you need is present. And, yes, there is a 25min drive to arrive to the location, which is really in the middle of the mountains - and that is one of the things that makes it so special. The views are truly amazing in all directions. Hike paths leave directly from the house, both higher up into the mountains and lower down into the forest, which is great. We preferred to take the car a little as possible once we got there. The +/- 5h hike back and forth to Lake Sen is gorgeous, just as much as simply sitting right outside the barn amongst the many flowers. It's a truly peaceful place. Thank you Jose for allowing strangers like us to stay here, we felt very lucky.

Jayne is a friendly good Englsh speaking lady. José, the owner of the barn took us to the house up the hill. He could only speak the local language and spanish. The barn is what you expect for the price you pay. Furniture is worn and rickety. The place is desolate indeed. Guests must drive aprox. 25 minutes to the village. By feet it will take you 1.5 hour or more. Outside there are spectacular views on the Pyrenees mountains (but not on the lake... ?) When you are in the house there is no window with a view.

Love spending time in the mountains. Any season is good for being out and about, spring for the first wild flowers, summer for mountain peaks and raspberry picking, autumn for wild mushrooms, walnuts, hazelnuts...and winter for snow shoes.
