A gorgeous 1930s home 5 min from downtown Cape Town, this beautifully renovated 2 bedroom Victorian sits in a lush and tranquil garden oasis (think Bali meets Table Mt). Enjoy super comfortable bedrooms, a spacious and sunny open-plan lounge and gourmand's kitchen, amazing garden (with fish pond, bbq area, and indigenous plants) and private & safe parking. Great location walking distance from trendy Woodstock's main attractions. Families will appreciate children's toys and amenities.

The space

The light-filled master bedroom with an incredibly comfortable King-sized bed looks onto banana trees and the grape vine. A 2nd kid's room has a double bed and plenty of books & toys. Both are quiet and have black-out window shades/curtains. High quality linens are provided, as are space heaters, fans, and towels.

The open-plan lounge is large and light-filled, looking onto a beautiful covered veranda, which extends onto a deck (overlooking a koi pond -- great spot for morning coffee or tea) and lush garden (banana and frangipani trees on one side, and indigenous fynbos on the other). There is also a built-in stone braai (outdoor BBQ fireplace) next to an 8-seater outdoor table in the shade of a ancient grapevine, with a small view of Table Mountain. When available, enjoy bananas, grapes and passion fruit fresh from the garden.

Complete with gas stove, electric oven, and tons of gadgets, the bright & beautiful kitchen opens onto a charming back courtyard with herb planters, an indigenous rock garden, private outdoor shower (hot water) and cleaning up area (for the fishermen and surfers).

One lovely bathroom with a shower and bath (plus the outdoor shower in courtyard, as noted above) are available.

Guest access

You will have the whole house to yourself. Includes free unlimited wifi, dishwasher, washing machine & dryer. The kitchen is fully equipped. We also have plenty of outdoor "toys" that you're welcome to use (boogie board, beach towels, etc).

Interaction with guests

We will typically be out of town when you are here, so you'll have the whole space to yourself. Normally we will check you in, but if we have already flown the coop, a neighborhood friend is available to check you in/out, and help with any questions or issues.

Other things to note

Please note that our resident (and very friendly) cat Oscar will be in the house. While you're here we will ask you to feed and let him in and out -- his needs are simple. Cat lovers will delight, those not so keen should probably look elsewhere as he's very friendly.

Close you eyes and imagine a tastefully decorated house full of art and books, a beautiful green garden with banana trees and herbs, a fish pond, covered terraces and a barbecue. This home is a dream come true - everything you can ask for. Lee's home is the best place to stay in Cape Town, especially when you are travelling with kids. We thank you so much for having us.

We loved staying with our little family in this nice place. The house is great for kids, plenty of space to play, there were toys and a changing unit, just perfect for our stay. The garden with the banana trees and a fish pond is beautiful! Lee is a superhost, very helpful! We had an amazing stay!

We had a great time staying at Lee's place over New Years. She was very responsive in advance of our arrival. She also gave us lots of great tips on what to do in Cape Town. The place was just how it was described. Lee met us to give us the keys. We had some issues with accidentally setting off the alarm a couple times, but Lee had given us clear instructions on what to do if that happened so it wasn't a problem. It was hard to tell what the neighborhood was like since a lot of things were closed for the holiday season. The house was very secure and had a parking spot behind a remote controlled gate. Oscar the cat was darling. The outdoor shower was terrific. It was about a ten minute drive from here to downtown. We had an awesome stay.

AMAZING PLACE! We stayed here for 12 days over Christmas, and found it to be the warmest, coziest, most beautiful airbnb of our 4-month travels so far. It is a real home, beautifully designed and fully equipped. Lee and Bruce were superb hosts, extremely flexible and communicative, and sincerely kind and helpful people. Bed is amazingly comfy, and we thought the house was even better than the pictures. The cat Oscar is the chillest cat ever. He is super easy to take care of and very loving and gentle. We loved the outdoor space. It's very safe, and we liked the vibe of the neighborhood. Lee's recommendations for drinks and eats nearby were great. It was sad to leave such a great place.

Lee's house makes you feel at home instantly with its very personalized and warm touch. In fact, with all the books, paintings and candles around, it was more like staying at a friend's house than at a stranger's place. Our favourite space was the kitchen island around which we gathered a lot. From there we had a view over the living area into the beautiful and lush garden which we unfortunately couldn't use as much because of our toddler and the fish pond. Other than that the house is great for kids and the fact that we have children at a similar age and there were toys and a changing unit we could use made our stay just perfect. The way Lee has organized her kitchen with lots of ingredients in glasses and their great cooking equipment has actually inspired us to also re-organise our kitchen. Oscar, their cat, made himself a lot more scarce than we would have liked to and it was really no work to take care of him. Lee was great with communication beforehand and sent a very detailed list with lots of helpful information. Even during our stay she was available via (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) and email to reply to a few questions we had. We can highly recommend this place to anyone who's looking for 'a home away from home'. It would have been so nice to actually meet them over a glass of wine...

I really enjoyed my stay in this property. The house is large, bright and airy. The outside space is delightful; private, green and peaceful with plenty of seating options. The bed was extremely comfortable and the open plan kitchen/lounge/dining area was a really nice space. Lee accommodated me at short notice and gave me very detailed and helpful instructions and information about everything I could need to know about the house and the neighborhood. The price I paid was really good value for such a pleasant property. I think it's intentionally lower than average to compensate for watering the garden (turning on and off the sprinkler system) and for looking after Oscar the cat. These two responsibilities were hardly difficult and well worth it for the great price! I stayed here on my own and as I'm working from 'home' during my stay in Cape Town I spent a lot of time in the house. Lee's place was a perfect environment for me to work from; comfortable, quiet and with good wifi, and the lovely garden helped me avoid cabin fever! The neighborhood is peaceful, pleasant and safe. It's a short walk to the main road and a selection of good restaurants can be found 10 minutes walk away. I took cabs for the short drive to/from the city centre for 50-60 Rand (via the amazing Uber app). Lee's place was ideal for me as a single traveler working from home but would also be really suitable for a small family - with plenty of space and a secure, private garden, although note there is a small pond at ground level. I definitely recommend this property.

Lee is a freelance journalist from the US, based in Cape Town since 2006. She works on environment, food security and youth issues. She is also a travel writer, specializing in food writing and luxury eco-wilderness travel. Bruce, a Cape Town native, is a biologist, a keen diver, surfer and fisherman. What we get up to: our toddler son has somewhat altered our routine, but we still love cooking/entertaining, the beach, hiking and traveling, and fortunately so does he (mostly). Our best trips are more likely to involve tents than 5-star ratings, but let's face it, the 5-stars can be pretty great too.
