This place is such a gem! The architecture is open to the garden, making you feel like you are in a different world way outside the city surrounded by trees, beautiful birds and cute squirrels. There are two bedrooms with ensuite bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, a garage and a large terrace towards the garden. The place provides everything you need, from mosquito repellent to dishwashing detergent, and the hosts even stocked up the fridge when I arrived. Excellent and fast internet. You can come and go as you please. Assistance of any kind was just a phone call away. I hope this place is available next time I travel to Colombo!!

This place is beautiful, either with rain or sunshine. It's not the kind of house you'd find anywhere, and I was indeed lucky to have stayed here. As if that weren't enough, Maulie and her brother Darshi was always an instant away whenever I sought their help. Thank you.

Stayed here to finish writing my book and spend some quality time with my boyfriend after another trip went poorly. I really wanted everything to go well and Maulie and her brother Darshi were absolutely amazing in helping us out with everything that we needed. This has been my favorite AirBnB space of all time. The house is absolutely magical and a concept I've only dreamed of. The excitement of the monkeys jumping through the trees in the morning is something I will miss. I am a city city so it took me about a day to get used to but I loved being so close to nature. We were lucky enough to have a couple of days of rain in the house which was fantastic. We loved it so much we extended our stay. Thanks again Maulie and Darshi for everything. I got my book finished and as a couple we had a few days in a house so beautiful it will always be a special memory for us!

It was both a pleasure and a privilege to stay in Maulie's Niche. It is an architectural gem, what we in the UK call a "Grand Design". It challenges you to think again about what a house is meant to do. There is an inside and an outside, it's just that it takes a bit of time to work out which is which. A unique experience, go on, give it a try. Likewise, I will put in a plug for Maulie's other listing, Galkadawala Forest Lodge . . . the same concept, transferred from the city to a rural environment. It is also a perfect base from which to visit some of the key sites in Sri Lanka's "Cultural Triangle". If you are visiting that part of the country, I find it hard to think you will find better accommodation. (But be sure to give yourself at least one extra day, to appreciate the lodge itself, and its local environment.)

We spend two months at maulies niche as we were attending a study program in colombo. It was an awesome time! We really enjoyed being in this very special open house. The house is located in a suburb of colombo, close to the lake (perfect for an evening run) and a perfect hideout from the busy streets and citylife of colombo itself. Supermarket, plenty of restaurants (locals and also "western" ones such us pizza hut) as well as ATMs are in walking distance. Depending on the traffic it takes about 30 minutes by tuktuk to get to the center of colombo or the seaside. As the house is completely opeb to the garden, you live with a lot of animals. You can hear the monkeys up in the trees and see lizzards here and there. We got used to the wildlife-noises quite quickly and enjoyed the surrounding. Having two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one outdoor livingroom/ garden terrace and a big kitchen maulies house was unexpected big and beautiful. The pictures can't catch the atmosphere. Maulie herself was a great help for us during our stay. She was always reachable via phone and helped us with everything she could. There is Sampath, the gardener, coming every week looking after the garden and the house. He was lovely! We couldnt have made a better choice for our stay. Thank you very much for the wonderful time we had at your place! We really felt like home.

Quirky, interesting and totally different! We loved it. You are inside the house but you are entirely outside - you sleep under open skies and stars, you share the home with all the little wildlife of the house and the garden surrounding you is a mini-jungle. Absolutely lovely. Maulie was not there, but she has ensured there was someone at house to clean it and hand over the keys to house. She was available on phone for any help we needed throughout our stay. It was definitely a nice experience and would love to stay here again if we need short-term accommodation in Colombo again.

I am the owner of Galkadawala Forest Lodge. After 25 years in the rat race, started what I always wanted to do .... a Lodge in the wilderness where one can enjoy nature as it is. I enjoy it very much, especially hosting others who wants to experience it. I love their company!
