I am really sorry that you could not enjoy your trip and your stay at my home as much as my visitors usually do.
Truth is that you were most unlucky with your vacation dates: that week Barbados had its worst flood rains in the last 20 years! flooded roads, parks, houses, restaurants, and vehicles floating all over the place! schools and workplaces were closed and people were sent home as the government issued a flood warning. Even the Independence celebrations had to be postponed and moved to other locations due to the conditions!!! To this day there are still repairs going on for the streets and some buildings are out of order. Damages were worse compare to the last hurricanes, an historical date!
And yes, these huge rains flooded the gravel pathway, and the gate's electrical system went off, and the water solar heating system did not have a chance to do what it is meant to do, as there was no sun.
We would have loved to be able to control the skies furry but then we are only humans ;)
And we tried our best:
-The gates were manually opened 24h later, after the technician who was overbooked with calls and who could not intervene under the rain, came and managed to repair them. However, you had an option to use the other private entrance, which is only manual and prepared for this kind of eventualities, and you have the keys (all explained in the welcome letter with the instructions).
-We reminded you of the electrical switch for the hot water as soon as you mentioned the issue.
-As for the plunge pool (we describe them as plunge pools, not swimming pools, as they are small) again the rain and wind brought leaves and dust into it, which thus made unideal for use. But the truth is under that weather there was not much incentive to enjoy it, was there?
Fortunately, there was very minimal damage to the property and no inside leaks at all (I'm very proud of it). The noises that woke you up were most likely terrified dogs, barking at the storm. Yard fowl are prevalent everywhere on the island and escaping their cacophony is nearly impossible, and nature is part of the charm of this island.
Yes, the villas are in a gated community with another fully constructed one and three to be build. However, there is no construction works at the moment, and to minimize their visibility, the walls have been painted, and the garage boarded so as to hide them. All our guests find these gated community very calm and private, as only two are up.
As relates to the broken chair, I heard more then one explanation for its breaking... But that is not the point, I initially kept $200 while searching for a quote for repairs, but since then you have already been refunded $105, as soon as I got it back. And that only a couple of days after your departure. So, actually, the cost was only $95, which is very reasonable for such a damage on a nice teak chair. True, plastic ones are cheaper, but isn't it nicer to feel the charm of the high furniture quality and decoration when you rent a house?
Also, if my records are accurate, you requested to pay only 30% up front and the rest later, I accepted this request through good will. But...again I had to send so many emails to get the balance paid, when is so much easier for me to do it through Airbnb!
Finally, remember for your next vacation, if you decide to go to the restaurant with your family before check in, don't forget to send a quick message or a phone call to the owner...after three hours waiting for you, I started to be worried.
