A big, colorful apartment in the hip Hakaniemi/Kallio district, filled with vintage and Nordic design furniture. Great views over the city. The location won't get better than this, close to everything you want to see and do in Helsinki!
Apartment is good for up to 8 people, but it isn't unusual to host only two guests either. HBO, Netflix, Viaplay available.
Three double beds, two singles and a baby crib available.
A bright, very spacious and exciting apartment in the heart of Hakaniemi/Kallio district, overlooking the city and lively Hakaniemi market square. Very easy to access from all corners of the city.
The apartment has:
- Master bedroom: a double bed (width 160 cm)
- Bedroom 2: a double bed (width 140 cm)
- Lounge (may be separated with a curtain from the living room): a double bed (width 140 cm)
- there is a possibility to add another 80 cm wide single bed and a 80 cm floor futon, if needed.
- a Brio baby crib and Stokke TripTrap highchair available.
The apartment is from the 1930's with old wooden floors, and the interior has a touch of the 70's with Nordic design, vintage and kitschy stuff from our travels.
The old labour district Kallio is really the place to be and stay in Helsinki, a typical area going through gentrification, but still a bit rough around the edges. It is full of nice restaurants, bars and clubs, small boutiques and vintage stores, hosting smaller and bigger festivals. Just opposite the apartment is the old Hakaniemi Market Hall, which is the best place in Helsinki for groceries, used mainly by locals. Next to it is Hakaniemi market square, which is the closest thing to the traditional market in Helsinki. During the summer, the square also hosts a flea market on Sundays.
The British Guardian magazine has put it well: "Helsinki has shaken off a somewhat dour image in recent years to emerge as one of Europe’s most refreshing city-break destinations. It’s a breezy Baltic port with a strong tradition of design, an alternative nightlife and an edgier feel than some of its Scandinavian cousins. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Kallio, just north of the city centre. Once a no-go area for tourists, it’s now home to cool bars, cafés and boutiques."
You may use pretty much everything in the apartment. The house has free laundry facilities which you may use. Off limits is only the vinyl collection, sorry.
Interaction with guests
We'll be staying out of the way and you'll have the apartment for yourself. Of course, in case we are in the city we may help you in the event of trouble. We'll also provide you with our best tips around Kallio and beyond. Helsinki is also a good base to make a day trip to Tallinn, Estonia -- we'll provide you with good recommendations there as well.
Other things to note
The cleaning fee is not included in the price, but it is possible to opt-in if the guests prefer so.
Please be considerate with the neighbours: no loud noise or music after 10 PM.
The custom in Finland is that shoes are always taken off when inside -- so please, no walking with shoes inside the apartment!
No smoking inside either, thank you! There is a balcony for that purpose just couple of meters away from the apartment's front door.
Late check-ins can be negotiated for a small extra fee.
