Maria Anna made us feel at home immediately! She has the best information about Icelandic culture and history and her stories really made the trip. The walk from her place to downtown is extremely pleasant and after going out every day we were so thankful to have such a comfortable place to come back to.

Maria was a great host, and gladly shared her local experience, as well as family stories. We enjoyed the location; 30 minutes walk to the city center, and easy access to the main roads when driving around.

Maria Anna was a lovely host, and a wealth of information about all things cultural in Iceland. She knows her city well. We had to arrive very late and leave very early, and she accommodated that. Her husband and a son were there when we stayed, so it was a pretty full house. We are pretty independent travelers, however, if we had questions, Maria Anna was happy to give us information. The flat is lovely and has a good view of the city. We were able to cook simple meals in the kitchen. The bed was very comfortable. The flat is walking distance to downtown. If you are a light sleeper, you should know that the house is near the intersection of two busy streets, so ear plugs would be a good idea.

María's place was amazing. It's very clean and spacious with a great view of the city. We walked to the city everyday and enjoyed our walk through the park. María is a great and flexible host we loved talking with her and staying at her place. We would definitely try to come back and recommend it to everyone. Thanks so much for an awesome stay!

María is an amazing, fun woman and very welcoming. She is also a great resource if you are looking for suggestions of things to see or do outside of the city. Her place is within walking distance of anything you need or want to do in town and finding a place to park our rental car was never an issue. She's a great host and I can't recommend this place enough.

Hi! My name is María Anna Þorsteinsdóttir and I am a 59 year old college teacher in icelandic literature and languages. My husband Rúnar is a captain on a fishing boat and is rarely at the home.
I'm born and raised in Reykjavik, but I lived for 5 years in the small town of Ísafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland. Rúnar was brought up in the country. Among us we have four grown children, three of which live abroad.
Our biggest interest is traveling and exploring the cultures of foreign nations, and meeting people. We have a small boat that we like sailing around the port of Reykjavik when the weather allows it, and maybe if you're lucky we could take you out for some fishing!
In my younger years I traveled all around Iceland, both by foot and motor, climbed mountains and traversed glaciers, and I know the country quite well and can answer most questions you might have regarding traveling through Iceland and it's history.
