Situated at the foot of the mountains in the peaceful village of Vrbanj, The Quaich has 3 self contained cottages surrounding a courtyard & private swimming pool. 5kms from the local ferry port of Stari Grad and 22 kms from Hvar Town. Tri and Dva cottages can sleep 2 adults and 2 younger children. Jedan cottage is suitable for a couple plus one small child/baby. Each cottage is approximately 35 sq m.

The space

The Quaich is a private, wifi complex situated on the edge of Vrbanj village, at the foot of the mountains but only 3km from the sea. Old stone animal houses have been converted into three comfortable but simple self contained cottages. The cottages are completely separate and have own kitchen, shower room, bedroom and living area. Each cottage can sleep 2 comfortably in the bedroom upstairs, however, Dva and Tri also have a sofa bed downstairs suitable for young children. In Jedan we can also put up a single bed for a young child. Tri cottage has an old roll top bath in the bedroom in addition to the shower room downstairs. The cottages can be rented individually or all together for a group of up to six adults plus young children . The accommodation surrounds a private courtyard, with al fresco dining and steps up to a stunning swimming pool which gets sunshine all day. Sunloungers and parasols are all available. A Romantic package can be arranged at extra cost. Welcome pack including wine and basic groceries. Collection from the local port is included in the cost. British proprietors live on site to assist with any of your needs or problems. Cot rental available and no charge for children ten or under.
The Quaich is ideal for either couples or maybe an 'extended' family holiday as you can share the facilities during the day but retire to the privacy of your own cottage at the end of the day.

Many couples who have stayed with us have loved the idea of returning with a group of friends or maybe a larger family group.

As all three cottages open out on to the communal courtyard this is great for families to get together for a meal or drinks but at the same time they have their own private cottage to return to at the end of the day.

Local attractions: There are so many beaches close by you will be spoiled for choice. We have drawn up a list of our favourites so you will have an idea where to go. Snorkeling and diving are very popular and we can arrange sailing, sea kayaking, rock climbing etc for you.
If you would like to hire a car, scooter or bicycle we can put you in touch with a reliable agency.
Jelsa is our closest town, with many cafes and restaurants as well as a nightclub. Plenty ATM's and supermarkets too and a medical centre.
Stari Grad is a wonderfully historic old town to visit and is only 6km from us.
When the sun goes down you may like to visit Hvar (party) Town and enjoy cocktails at the famous Carpe Diem or watch the sun go down to the champagne corks popping in the Hula Bar.

Getting here: The closest airport to Hvar is Split although flights do also come into Dubrovnik and Zadar.
From Split airport it is a 30 minute taxi drive to the ferry port and then a 2 hour crossing on one of the many daily ferries to Stari Grad on Hvar. There is also a daily catamaran to Jelsa.
New for 2015 is the sea plane connection from Split airport direct to Jelsa - only a 10 minute flight.
Once on the island we will collect you at the port and take you the short 15 minute drive to The Quaich where a cool beer will be waiting for you.

Guest access

Guests will have full use of swimming pool, sun loungers, parasols, pool towels, BBQ. There is also parking approx. 250 m away on private ground adjacent to the local football pitch.

Interaction with guests

We live on site and will collect and return you to the ferry port on arrival and at the end of your stay. We are happy to cook for you and have a menu catering for most tastes. If you prefer not to drive we can arrange taxis for you.

Other things to note

Our prices are based on 2 sharing. We do not charge for children under 10 but there is an additional charge of 500 kuna paid locally to cover the cost of laundry etc. This will be added to your account at the end of your stay.

Perfectly quiet, scenic location and very helpful hosts. Highlights were definitely the poolside and barbecue for us. And what a beautiful island! Thank you for a lovely stay.

This is a lovely secluded property, and the owners are really amiable. From the moment we requested to book the information through from Christine was really helpful. The setting is quite idyllic and has the makings of a tremendous hideaway. However, it does not exude the luxury that is used as a selling point, neither in its fixtures and fittings nor perhaps general attention to detail. Some things to note would be the lack of headroom in the bedroom which makes walking around the bed impracticable and/or inevitably painful. Space overall is quite limited, and the stairs up to the loft bedroom are a bit treacherous for anyone unsteady on their feet, or of any significant age. The fact that the bedroom is in an uninsulated loft space makes for a very hot den in which to sleep in the summer months, although to be fair there is an air conditioning unit which functions fine (I don't like using aircon personally). Personal means of transport is a must if you want to stray outside the village, although Mick does offer a taxi service and is incredibly helpful. But the fares would soon mount up if you were fully reliant on this, and the tariffs are already fairly steep to begin with and possibly not reflective of the remoteness. The pool area is really lovely and a very pleasant place to while a few hours away with a good book and a beer. For balance, the property might best suit couples who are content to stay around the local village or those who are willing to drive themselves to Jelsa or Stari Grad and not have a drink. We really enjoyed cycling around Jelsa and Stari Grad, and nearby Dol is also worth going up to for a look at a local village not influenced by tourism. In summary, a lovely location and great to be away from the resorts, but there are perhaps a few areas that could be improved.

Response from Christine:
I'm glad for the most part you enjoyed your stay with us Darren. Obviously in view of some of your comments I have reviewed our advert on airbnb and I agree that perhaps I should mention that the bedroom does have a pitched roof. However, our photos quite clearly show this and also the size of the cottage is clearly stated. Vrbanj is the largest inland village on the island and is very much away from the tourist areas which I think is part of the appeal for our guests. We do obviously realise that being away from it all not only has a great deal going for it but that guests would either need self transport or use Mick's services. We do try to keep our costs to a minimum. All of this is, I think, is made quite clear in our advert.

My wife and I booked a cottage for our babymoon. It was an incredibly good choice. Although the place is outside of the main cities, this wa perfect for us as we felt we could escape from the crowds and come back to our quiet little village. Plus, mick runs a taxi cab service to anywhere on try island. We hired a car and drove to different beaches and towns each day. But most importantly of all, Christine and mick bent over backwards to look after us. They booked us restaurants, booked boats for us, made us a little picnic. They even, when i mentioned about hiring a car, called a friend who simply came and dropped one off at the door - it loads cheaper than I'd seen online too! I can honestly say it's like having a beautiful little private retreat with a very family feel, except the service Christine and mick give you is like the concierge service at a swanky hotel. We'd love to return one day. Book this place you won't regret it!!

A great place to relax, lovely pool area in very peaceful surroundings. Although located in a quiet village, the local shop and restaurant are walkable, and we enjoyed the pizza! Our cottage was charming and lovingly furnished, with plenty of outside space for all guests to enjoy. Chris and Mick are great hosts, very approachable and welcoming. Would recommend as a quiet place to stay, for some rest and relaxation!

Very warm welcome from Chris and Mick - who collected us from the ferry port. Lovely cottage, pool and great communial area - where all of us from each of the cottages enjoyed sitting at the shared table and having sociable evenings. Highly recommend the dinner cooked by Chris. And if you're lucky you might get to taste her yummy cherry grappa! This is a fantastic getaway and a good location to explore Hvar. Very homely and enjoyable - thanks Chris and Mick.

Fantastic place to stay. Lovely cottage with wonderful pool and eating area with grape vines hanging overhead. The hosts were so nice and the cool beer on arrival was just what we needed! The taxi service and home cooked meals made it a stress free holiday and ideal with a baby.

Home in UK is in Brighton but live and work at The Quaich in Vrbanj on Hvar. My husband Mick and I moved here full time in 2008 and live on site. We love the lifestyle on Hvar and have been sharing our 'space' here with guests since 2009. We try to offer our guests a home from…
