The Colorado's beautiful Cimarron Valley and the Black Canyon RV and Cabins Campground beckon fishermen and hunters and those seeking just a relaxing stop along historic US Highway 50 with views of the valley and San Juan mountains. We are located within 15 miles of the south entrance to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. No longer accepting pets.

The space

The Wapiti Cabin (Indian word for "elk") at the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins is a comfy cabin that can sleep up to 4. The kitchen, living area and full bathroom are on the main level. The wood trim and stairway of red cedar leads up to the loft bedroom which has one double bed and two single beds. The outside entry area has a small patio with a picnic table. Dec 1 to May 1 - laundry facilities may not be available.

Guest access

Guests have access to campground facilities which include barbecue areas, campfire pit, rec field for golf and horseshoe play, kids' playhouses, laundry and shower building. Free WiFi and cable TV. Dec 1 to May 1 - laundry facilities may not be available.

Interaction with guests

Campground hosts Larry and Bob are available to provide information on the area's hunting and fishing options as well as other sightseeing and recreational venues. They are friendly locals who will do all they can to make your stay in the Cimarron Valley as pleasant as possible.

Other things to note

The Cimarron Valley and surrounding area is in an amazingly beautiful and scantily populated area of the Colorado Rockies. US Highway 50 that passes through the area is mostly two-lane and the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins sits between two minor mountain summits, Cerro Summit toward Montrose in the West and Blue Mesa Summit toward Gunnison and Blue Mesa Reservoir to the East. Shopping, grocery stores, and restaurants are 23 miles west in Montrose or 42 miles east in Gunnison.

The Black Canyon RV Park, Cabins and Campground is a great place for reunions as well. Besides RV sites, 4 small cabins and 2 larger cabins, the campground also includes tenting sites and a lodge. The lodge has bunks for up to 10 people, a large community room with a large screen TV, and full kitchen.
Minimum stay of 5 nights from Dec 1 to May 1.

The Wapiti cabin was fantastic! Full kitchen with eat-in area, living room w/Dish TV, bath downstairs, beds upstairs in the loft, dining table on wood deck, and wifi. Bed sheets, towels, toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, soap, and shampoo provided, and there were fans and space heaters in the unit as well. We checked in after 5pm and Larry was super nice and very helpful! The location is very convenient, right on Hwy 50, so of course if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs - I am a light sleeper and didn't have a problem, using earplugs. There is a convenience store and a little restaurant within a few miles of the cabin, which is nice. Otherwise, nothing around, which means great nature/mountain views, and no light pollution, which allowed my father-in-law to capture some AMAZING photos of the Milky Way from right in front of the cabin! Thanks Larry and Bob for the excellent stay, and for being fabulous hosts! :)

Thank you so much for accommodating our late check in. The cabin and property grounds are perfect! We took full advantage of being close to Balck Canyon as well as the suggestion for SilverJack Resevoir! Thank you again! This was our very first Airbnb stay and didn't know what to expect- your property set extremely high standards for future Airbnb stays!

The cabins are clean and warm. The scenery is beautiful and serene. The owners are friendly and warm too. A great place to stay when passing through, or as a base to go explore Colorado

Our host was great, he showed us into the house and made sure we knew where the light switches were. The place was impeccably clean and definitely well taken care of. The whole area was scenic, extraordinarily beautiful, and quiet.

Enjoyed our stay at the beautiful cabin! Easy access to such a secluded area. The neighbors were friendly and still private. Cute and roomy inside.

The beauty and recreational opportunities of the Cimarron Valley where my family lives and operates the Black Canyon RV Campground and Cabins convinces me daily that I live in paradise! We love to hunt and fish and have this in our own backyard! Our campground is a center for fishing and outdoor recreation in the Spring and Summer and a hot spot for hunting in the Fall and early Winter. And - we have many people who stay in one of our cabins or in the RV campground and just enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of the valley and mountains.
