About this listing

- Seid herzlich willkommen in Hamburg! Mr Trump, with all disrespect, YOU are not invited to stay at my place, very sorry indeed! ;-))

The space

Interaction with guests

Other things to note

Daniela was an excellent host, welcoming and friendly and her home is beautifully decorated and in a really nice, pleasant part of Hamburg. It is an easy 15 minutes walk to town where the train station is. I would have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending her place to others.

I and my wife Anna spent 18 days at Daniela’s place. When we arrived, she met us at the train station. It’s 15 minutes by feet from there to her apartment. The flat's situated in a quiet area. There're many shops and restaurants. In the flat ther's a kitchen, a bathroom and three rooms: guest room, Daniela’s room and a craftroom. The flat's clean and good-looking. Daniela provided two towels for each of us and changed them after a week. In the bedroom there's a sofa, which is comfortable for two people, an armchair, a mirror and a stool with booklets about Hamburg. There're many books. There're hangers for clothes. There’s no wardrobe or chest-of-drawers. In the kitchen there're many dishes to use, there’s an oven, a stove,a microwave. It's possible to use one shelf in the fridge. Daniela also gave us coffee to use in her coffee-machine. There's no table in the kitchen and no table in the room, so it’s only possible to eat sitting on the bed. In the bathroom there's no bath curtain and there're many decorations (as everywhere in the flat) – pictures and (URL HIDDEN) be sure you're careful enough to use the shower without destroying anything. We managed it somehow, though it was not easy :-) For future guests we have some advices and additional information about the rules. 1)There's a bin in the bathroom, but it IS NOT for toilet paper, it’s for some other kind of rubbish. (We were not told about this in advance)Be sure that you put used toilet paper directly into the toilet. This may sound funny, but it really is an important thing. In some homes the bin in the bathroom IS for toilet paper, but in other homes it's considered to be disgusting. 2)It's better to cook when Daniela isn't at home. Especially if your food smells. Try to avoid cooking bacon; its smell makes her feel uncomfortable the most. We recommend that you discuss in advance what food exactly you will cook and is its smell OK or not. When you cook, open the window, otherwise the fire alarm can go off (fortunately it never happened to us). 3)Ask ALL the arising questions in advance. When we were booking the room, we saw in the description that there's a washing machine. It was our mistake not to ask about it directly. Well, actually there IS a washing machine, but guests are not allowed to use it. It was a big issue for us, because we came to Hamburg for 18 days business trip and the possibility of washing clothes was essential for us. Fortunately, we washed our clothes at our colleague’s place. Daniela has already edited the description, so it will not be an issue anymore. In the end we would like to thank Daniela for being our host and say sorry if there was any misunderstanding. We recommend this place for people who like silence and orderliness for short touristic stays up to one week.

Response from Daniela:
Thank you for the long description. Of course I'd like to comment on a few things. Anna and Pavel were nice Russian guests living in Israel with unusual habits for a German host (hosting German and international guests for two years now and using airbnb myself as a guest as well, and still enjoying it a lot). Bathroom: They put used toilet paper (used as in used on the toilet, you get the idea) in a normal waste bin and told me, that was normal in Israel where they live. It is not, told me an Israeli friend from Jerusalem who was shocked by my description of the situation. Of course I didn't ask my guests to throw toilet paper into the toilet after using it as so far I always could expect my guests to do so without telling them. Even non-European guests knew that. The washing machine was my mistake, that is right and is corrected now. Kitchen: Anna and Pavel were very avid cooks. They started cooking and frying as early as 7.15am and as late as 11.45pm. Those are not normal times to cook and fry in my humble opinion (lunch time and dinner time would be, brunch on weekends maybe) and I asked Anna and Pavel to only start cooking in the morning when I left the house for work at 7.30am as I am not used to strong smells of frying fat in the morning and they said yes, that would be fine. But then sadly they didn't keep to the agreement. I asked Pavel again not to cook with strong frying smells in the morning before I leave 15 minutes later and he started to discuss about this. His voice was raised and I felt shouted at in my own home. After that they both didn't speak to me anymore for the remaining last week until they left without a word or greeting. Unfortunately, as sad as I am to say this, Anna and Pavel made me feel a bit uncomfortable in my own home. This never happened before with any of my other guests (German and international, never such problems, so it probably wasn't a cultural thing) and I hope it will never happen again with future guests. People from different cultural backgrounds have different points of view but if I stay at someone's home I have to adapt at least a bit to this person's lifestyle. Besides, the flat can be seen on the photos, you get what you see, and questions can be asked up front before booking just to make sure. I would warmly recommend Anna and Pavel next time to stay in a holiday appartment/hotel room where they are provided with hotel service, where they are to themselves and can do as they like without the need to pay attention to someone else.

The room is well prepared for stay, clean and decorated, wifi etc. etc., Moreover, it is oriented to sun rise, which is very pleasant. The flat offers everything one needs for short to middle-term staying. I like the decoration of the flat, each room has different atmosphere. The neighborhood is quite and pleasant, parks are nearby as well as it is about 10 minutes of walk to the town center. The supermarket is just behind the corner.

Thanks, Vaclav. I hope, not only the room was nice and the surroundings... I hope Vaclav liked me and my company as well! :-) But even without mentioning it, I think he did....

Absolut empfehlenswert.
