There is no beating around the bush about this, Chris and Tama's place is absolutely brilliant! First things first though, if you are going to stay here you NEED a car, it is about a 25 minute drive from Hilo itself and about 40 minutes to the Volcano National Park. The closest shops we found were about 15-17 minutes away, but they had everything you needed! Secondly, the ONLY bad thing about this room is it gets quite hot without Air Con, but thankfully there is a ceiling fan plus two portable fans that you can use that make it a lot cooler! I even used an extension cord and sat one fan up on a bench near the bed to cool me while I slept, worked perfectly. Now onto the great things because there are so many! The accommodation is in a great location, it's not far from Hilo or the Volcano National Park. It's in a very quiet area and is super, super clean and private. You can sit out on the tables outside your room and listen to all manner of wildlife chirping and buzzing away while enjoying a drink, or even better do the same while relaxing in the amazing hot tub or floating in the lap pool! Chris met us when we checked in, communication before hand was excellent and everything was as explained! Chris was a brilliant host when checking us in and took the time to show us around and explain everything to us, he even had heaps of travel books in the room for us to read if we wished, and they were all up to date as well. The room has everything you could need, from snorkel gear to bikes to ride around on, to head lamps for visiting the national park at dark, they even had jackets incase it got cool (Quite silly I reckon, not sure this place ever gets cold) :) We only briefly met Tama as she was away until the night before we left and in the short time we got to speak to her we thought she was great! She does all the work for the garden according to Chris, and the garden is spectacular! Although Chris and Tama live upstairs you barely see them or even know they are there! I would actually say it would have been nice to have a bit more interaction with them as they were such great people! :) There is a toaster for use and an electric grill as well as a fridge, no oven but you should be able to make do with the grill if you plan ahead! There is a laundromat about 15 minutes away at the shopping centre for all your washing needs. This place is brilliant, I would HAPPILY stay here again and would recommend to family and friends visiting this side of the big island! Thank you guys for an awesome stay.

Chris and Tama hosted us for 3 nights. Our arrival was made easy with constant communication. The place was really quiet, except the coqui frogs after sunset :) which was not an issue for us. We did not use the swimming pool and the hot tub, but you will be able to! Everything you need is at disposal, even for outside activities (bikes, snorkeling gears, body board, cool box...). It was a very good starting point to move around (by car!) and visit the Volcano National Park or see the lava flowing! We would recommend it if you're looking for a quiet place outside Hilo (about 20 minutes drive). Thanks again Chris and Tama!

Chris and Tama are GREAT hosts. Their place has everything you need (even more) and they are extremely generous, accommodating and welcoming. They are also very knowledgeable about the island and are experienced guests who can anticipate your needs. We really enjoyed our stay in their little piece of paradise.

This was the beatbox Airbnb we have ever stayed at, and we have stayed at LOTS! It's close to the volcano national park so a useful location. We weren't on or honeymoon and although the appartment is attached to the main house, it always felt private and we actually never saw our hosts apart from at checkinnand checkout. They were really friendly generous people and left us a guidebook to read, some food, and useful stuff like jumpers and headtorches and bikes. The appartment was spacious and comfortable and clean. It was a little warm as there I see no ac but we had fans to cool us down. The pool and hot tub were AMAZING! I would recommend this place to anyone in a heartbeat!

Chris and Tama's place was awesome! The location is perfect for day/night trips to Volcanoes NP, black/green sand beaches to the south, and for stargazing at Mauna Kea to the north. The property is gorgeous and very peaceful, and we enjoyed listening to the frogs all evening (and hanging with the kitties). The house had everything we could have needed (for adventures / cooking / etc) and I wish we could have stayed for more than 3 days. The hosts were very friendly and responsive. They were available to answer any of our questions and provided a lot of tips on where to go. They suggested we head to Kalapana (~30 min away) and bike out to where the lava is flowing into the ocean -- this experience was not on my radar but it was well worth it!! We would definitely stay here again!
