This is the perfect place for two to get away from the city in our off-the-grid cabin. It is perfect for a private, romantic weekend, a contemplative retreat or a base camp for adventures around Hood Canal and the Olympic Peninsula. There are good restaurants nearby with dine in or take out service. Local activities include kayaking, fishing, hiking, swimming and more.
A perfect get-a-way for two in a small cottage with water and mountain views from the deck. This is a very small private space with everything you need to be comfortable, and is only appropriate for two adults. But, we are pet friendly...dogs only, though (see George and Luna pictures)! Fold out double bed, kitchenette, shower and flush toilet. Great restaurants, hiking, kayaking and outdoor activities abound. BBQ, beach access and WiFi. There's a lot to do locally, but if rest and quiet relaxation are what you need, this is also the place.
The cabin is separated from the main house, set in a corner of the property with views of the water and mountains. It is small and private. Enjoying the deck in front is very pleasant at any time of day. Enjoy your coffee in the morning or a libation in the afternoon. It's next to our patio in a quiet spot with privacy. Access is from the parking area at the top of the property through our yard, past a small log play house, our vegetable garden and the main house.
Hand built in the 1930's by my grandparents, the cottage reminds one of a "Hobbit" house (people six feet tall and up will have to watch not to bump their heads on entry and exit) and has been used by many guests, family and visitors over the years. It has been moved at least three times from it's original location. There is history here!
It has been completely remodeled and is clean, comfortable and up-to-date in all respects. You will find all the conveniences of home in a cozy cottage.
We have two very friendly dogs on the property, and we do accommodate well behaved dogs. Our West Highland White Terrier, George, and my sister's Flat Coat Retriever, Luna (see photos). They are both very friendly, may bark at you, but will not bite. If they pester you too much (they love new company) feel free to shoo them away or tell them to go home.
You have free Guest WiFi with no password.
A $25 cleaning fee and 10.5% sales and lodging tax is included in the nightly rate.
On the patio in front of the main house there is a Weber BBQ that guests may use in coordination with the hosts. Please ask first and get instructions for use.
We have a small beach with a deck and dock across the street that guests may use with permission. It's great for picnics, swimming or boating (kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and more). You will need to provide your own water toys, beach shoes (no open toes), towels (please do not use the towels in the cottage) and fishing gear. Use the beach and dock at your own risk and please clean up after yourselves and leave things as you found them. Ask us to show you around and provide an orientation to the dock and beach before you go.
Interaction with guests
We strive to always be at home when you check in so we can show you around the compound, orient you to the cabin and introduce you to our two friendly dogs, George and Luna. We are generally around home when we have guests, however, if we have another commitment or just need to run errands, we can usually be reached by mobile phone at ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and will make every effort to help with any of our guests' needs.
Other things to note
Taller guests will have to watch not to bump their heads at the entry and bathroom doors, as well as on the support beam between the living area and kitchenette. The full size folding bed mattress is 72" long when opened, so six footers will be comfortable; we offer a queen size comforter that will accommodate taller people since it is not tucked in at the bottom.
IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE READ THE AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW FOR OPENING AND CLOSING THE SOFA-BED. A COPY IS ALSO IN THE CABIN ORIENTATION BOOK AND ON THE BOOKCASE.
Please read and follow these instructions to avoid problems opening and closing the bed.
Opening the bed:
1.Put the cushions out of your way.
2.Grasp the bar in the middle of the frame with one hand.
3.Pull up vertically and at the same time grasp the bar on the bottom of the frame with your other hand and pull towards you.
4.Lift up on the bar that says “Lift Here” to unsnap the frame.
5.Unfold the frame so the frame and mattress lay flat and it looks like a bed.
6.Pull the mattress down to the foot of the frame so it rests against the wire stops at the bottom.
Closing the bed:
1.Pull the mattress down to the foot of the frame so it rests against the wire stops at the bottom.
2.Make sure the 3” memory foam mattress topper is also pulled down.
3.Holding the memory foam and mattress together with one hand, lift up and fold the frame and mattress forward towards the head of the bed.
4.When the frame and mattress are folded as far as they will go, you will then need to push down on the bar that says “Lift Here” to snap the frame into place.
5.Now lift up on the bar in the middle of the frame and simultaneously push forward (toward the head of the bed) and down to fold the frame and mattress back into place. Make sure the memory foam and mattress are not jammed under the backboard of the sofa.
If you have any difficulty, please do not force the mattress and frame into place. Rather, get ahold of us and we’ll help.
Finally, we have a squirrel that has taken up residence in the attic space of the cabin. We're trying to trap and remove this little critter, but until we do, please be aware that small animal noises may occur in the attic space during the night. We're sorry for any inconvenience this might cause.
We only expect guests to respect our property and leave things as they found them. Please wash your dishes and leave them in the drainer, wipe down the counters and clean the BBQ if used. Please strip the sheets and leave the bedding and towels in the bathroom ready for us to wash. Put garbage and recyclables (paper, plastic, metal and glass) in the provided separate containers and/or provided plastic bags.
If you bring your dog, please pick up after it with the provided poo-bags and leave them in the bucket we will leave outside the cottage door. Although we are pet friendly, please don't let large or dirty dogs sleep on the duvet cover.
No indoor smoking, please.
