I had an amazing stay in Tyra's studio. Although I did not meet her in person, Tyra was very professional and prompt with communications, and provided one of the most comprehensive set of check-in instructions I've ever received from an Airbnb host. The studio itself was just as jazzy and roomy as the pictures convey. It is well designed and furnished, with great lighting, natural and artificial. Though it may not appear so, there are ample and well-placed windows so the studio receives a lot of ventilation, and I did not need to use fans or AC at all during my stay, when it ranged from 70 to 90 degrees. The studio is very well stocked with kitchen supplies, towels in the chest of drawers, a bookshelf of games and books, potted plants, artwork, laundry needs, and furniture. It is apparent that much thought and care went into furnishing this studio. And let us not forget the sauna, which unfortunately I was not able to experience during my stay. The shower room was undergoing some repairs during my stay, but Tyra was very communicative of this and provided access to a bathroom in the main house for me to use. The hot water was a bit unreliable (I think there is some kind of tank/tankless system that this urbanite doesn't understand), but a quick note to Tyra resolved it. As other reviewers have noted, the path to the studio involves trekking through a garden path and walking to the third floor via an outdoor staircase. There is a lot of foliage. In the early morning, one will need to walk through some crowds of cute insects and the couple spider webs that have formed overnight - just something to be aware of. This wasn't troublesome at all, but one might want to carry a book or bag to use as a shield to protect one's long hair or makeup. The surrounding neighborhood is quaint and tree-lined, with stately houses and early morning dog-walkers. Before my arrival I heard rumors about safety concerns but I felt completely safe and comfortable walking around the area (though I limited my time outside to the hours of 5am to 5pm). There are some characters around who might be loud, lively, or poorly dressed, but they did not seem dangerous or even bothersome. The University of Chicago is about 15 minutes away, so numerous emergency stations and police cars are around for peace of mind. The presence of the university also means cute cafes and bookstores. I highly recommend Plein Air Cafe for coffee, and Powell's Books and 57th Street Books, all of which are a short and thoroughly enjoyable walk away. There is also a Whole Foods about 5 minutes walk away, and it surprised me with having the most cheerful, vibrant cashiers I've ever found in a Whole Foods. I actually enjoyed my time in South Side much more so than my time in the city proper, which I found congested and similar...

Very cool space that was well utilized and furnished. Very clean. The three flights of outdoor steps in the very back of the house were daunting - especially when we arrived after dark. The neighborhood was lovely and we felt safe. Street parking was challenging. At one point we had to use paid parking. Other than texting, we had no contact with Tyra. We've always enjoyed meeting our hosts at other Airbnbs.

Communications from Tyra were very clear, and her responses were always prompt and helpful. The unit was very clean, quiet, and conveniently located. A very good value, especially considering other local lodging options. The temperature was in the high 80s in Chicago when we were there, so we didn't need to use the sauna. But we look forward to trying it when we stay at Tyra's place this winter.

Great space for a family vacation in the amazing neighborhood of Hyde Park - apartment is open plan, but with feeling of privacy between the different sleeping spaces. Quiet, thoughtfully equipped, beautifully furnished.

I am an attorney by trade, but can rarely stay put to do just one thing. Besides family and friends, I love animals, sailing and ice cream. Chicago is a great place to be or visit. I spend as much time outdoors as possible, whether it is battling it out in the prairie garden or admiring the different colors of blue Lake Michigan provides on any given day.
