We really enjoyed Karen's apartment for our week in Girona. It is in a normal residential neighbourhood, not a tourist area, but it is only about 100m from the start of the tourist area, and 2-3 minutes' walk from as many beautiful stone buildings as you could ever want. The …

What a great AirBnB experience! Me and my partner stayed at Karen's for five whole weeks and loved it. The location is great, a very short stroll to the old quarters and the downtown with loads of coffee places and restaurants near by. As the apartment is on a quiet street there …

We are a family of four (2 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 11). Karen very kindly met us very late at night as we arrived on a 2300 flight. The apartment is really central (one minute from old town) and close to a host of sites, restaurants and shops. an added bonus is the shor…

The three months I spent in the apartment went very smoothly (with exception of the noise from upstairs neighbors which sometimes interrupted my work during the day). Having excellent wifi meant it was easy for me to stay connected with my work abroad through dozens of (Hidden by…

For the benefit of potential guests I would like to point out a few things that Nancy mentions in her review. Firstly, my apartment is in a residential block of Girona, full of families and couples who work in the city. Guests have an authentic taste of life in Catalonia, it is not a block of holiday apartments nor a hotel. The community has a "quiet by 10.30pm" rule but during the day everyone goes about the business of living. It is unfortunate for someone such as Nancy who was a researcher at the university, who wanted to work from home in relative quiet, but not really surprising. I guess with (Hidden by Airbnb) calls required she could not study at the university library. Secondly the issue of smells. I believe Nancy was very sensitive to them and I noted that all the cleaning fluids, soaps, shampoos and washing up liquids I left were stored away. As soon as she mentioned a problem with the small lounge rug I removed it, dry/cleaned it and did not return it to the apartment during her stay, as she requested. All blanket, duvets and pillows I suggested she store in the spare bedroom as she had been out to buy her own. In Catalonia it is common practice to dry clean these at the end of winter and with clean covers and pillowcases for each guest. I was not aware that the parquet floor down in all but the bathroom and kitchen also smells, but in 3 months I am sure she could use the products she preferred. Finally the issue of chairs I think must be a personal thing, There is a new comfortable sofa, 4 brand new padded dining chairs and two vintage comfy swivel chairs in case you were wondering! As a responsible host I am always happy to listen to my guest's concerns and appreciate all the helpful comments Nancy made during her stay. Those that I could, I acted upon.

This is a well situated apartment, just minutes' walk from the old town. The accommodation is perfect for two people; there is plenty of storage space, and the kitchen, although small, is well equipped for self-catering. The shower is very good. The apartment was renovated some …

I have a simple request when guests leave, to please leave the apartment as you found it! My two young tenants failed to look after the property when they stayed and did more damage in a four week period than the previous family of three had done in their four month stay! The apartment is a very cosy, well insulated with gas central heating and double glazing. In a spell of colder weather it was obvious that the tenants did not ventilate the apartment (open the utility room window for 20 minutes as this is not automatic). Despite clear instructions to do so at the start of their stay, when drying clothes inside, cooking or having showers. In good weather this is never something you have to think about as the patio doors are often open. I also offered many opportunities for them to let me know of any problems throughout the stay, but heard only about a broken toaster which was quickly replaced. As a result it took many hours of cleaning and painting to bring the apartment back to the quality it was before they arrived and some of the parquet is permanently damaged. I am not quite sure as a caring host what more I could have done and was disappointed with the attitude they took on leaving. Luckily I have many lovely tenants who look after the place as their own.

My family and I moved to Catalonia from the UK 18 years ago, finding Can Torras two years later. Since then it has been a labour of love to renovate two apartments and my old farmhouse. I knew from the start this was where I wanted to live - the food, the scenery, the wonderful w…
