Secluded rustic cabins nestled among five acres of regenerating native garden. Prairie Holm Farm is a working farm located along the edge of Lake Wairarapa and foothills of the rugged Remutaka Ranges.
Accommodation consists of a generous sized lounge/kitchen/bathroom cabin and a DETACHED bedroom sleeping cabin. The bathroom is a unique "camping style" room giving an open air feel. NOTE: Prairie Holm is a working Dairy, Sheep & Beef farm - NO Pets allowed & NO Wifi available.
The space
The accommodation includes a two bedroom cabin with a separate generous building housing the lounge and a large fully implemented kitchen. Attached to the lounge/kitchen block is the unique open camping style bathroom containing two toilets and two wet floor showers.
There is a wood burner in the living area and plenty of wood.
The cabin sits at the top of a five acre regenerating native garden, creating a secluded relaxing rural retreat.
NOTE: BATHROOM - Attached to the lounge/kitchen block is the unique open style bathroom with two toilets and two "wet floor" showers.
We are located 13km from the Featherston township which provides a wonderful array of quaint shops, cafe's, a bakery and of course the famous Fell Locomotive Museum.
On Saturday mornings there is a very popular fruit and vegetable market with fresh coffee and a local butcher on the BBQ.
We are within half an hour's drive to either Martinborough or Greytown if you'd prefer bustling boutique shops, vineyards, cafe's and restaurants.
Cross Creek Road and the Remutaka Cycle Trail is one of the 22 Nga Herenga NZ Cycle Trails Great Rides. It is is 4km north of Prairie Holm on Western Lake Road. The Remutaka Cycle Trail continues alongside Lake Wairarapa through vast farmland, pockets of native bush towards the shores of Ocean Beach and back to Orongorongo via a coastal track.

PLEASE NOTE: Be aware that this is a working dairy, sheep and beef farm with large farm machinery, farm bikes and milk tankers also using the main driveway. You may also hear the machinery and farm animals during the day!!
Guests are welcome to wander the large native garden, however are not permitted in the working areas of the farm for health and safety reasons.
NO Pets allowed.
Other things to note
Our farm water is sourced from a creek and is gravity fed to our house and the cabin. Our family of six drink it straight from the tap as it is beautiful.
HOWEVER - if the water appears murky after heavy rain we recommend you boil drinking water. We also provide a small amount of bottled water for guests.
The bathroom is a unique semi "open air" camping style bathroom creating a breezy experience enabling you to hear the birds etc.
All water is gravity fed from a creek up in the Remutaka Ranges on the farm. Although we drink it straight from the tap, it is recommended guests boil all drinking water. It can become very murky after heavy rain.
Directions:
* If you are travelling from Wellington - take the first right into Moore Street as you come off the Remutaka Hill Road into Featherston.
* Moore Street becomes Western Lake Road at the edge of town.
* Travel approximately 13km from Featherston on Western Lake Road.
* The cabin will be unlocked with a "self check-in" process and are ready for you to enjoy!!
