Located a block from the happening Rigsbee Avenue scene and walking distance to downtown, this spacious, brand new master's suite offers immediate access to the best of Durham and a quiet space to rest and relax amidst friendly neighbors. Your room is the only one upstairs so you'll have plenty of privacy.
The master's suite occupies the entire 2nd floor so it's very private and quiet. We also have a great sleep machine (white noise maker) just in case you're a very light sleeper. The queen-sized bed with a thick memory foam mattress topper, making for a very comfortable night sleep for two (even if you or your companion are a bit fidgety). There's also a ceiling fan to help keep you cool.
The bathroom is very roomy, with double vanity sinks and a jetted soaker tub. We have two water heaters, so there's always plenty of hot water.
This is a brand new house, so no need to worry about everything functioning properly. We chose simple paint colors which augment the ample natural light, so the space feels very light, open and homey. This focuses the eye toward the considerable array of art Sarah and I have amassed from our travels around the world. The kitchen is excellently equipped with brand new appliances and plenty of space.
We also love our outdoor space. There's a spacious front porch with rockers, a hammock and a love seat looking out on the street and garden, a back deck with a table, chairs and a grill for outdoor dining, and a big fenced in back yard with a fire pit surrounded by seats, big ancient oaks and lots of lovely smaller plants.
Free cable internet/wifi (sorry, no TV).
Shared kitchen, dining and living room area with plenty of seating and a stereo system and large record collection. You're welcome to play music as long as you're sensitive to time, volume, and other's tastes. You're welcome to use the fridge, storage space or any of the other kitchen appliances. You're free to use moderate amounts of the most basic cooking staples (oil, spices, condiments), but please ask before using anything of significant substance.
Washer and dryer on main floor is available, just make sure you ask before using anyone else's supplies. First come, first serve!
There's no smoking in the house. You're welcome to smoke outside, just throw away your butts.
Interaction with guests
Unless we are our of town, we will be staying downstairs during your stay with our daughter Eloise. We both work in and out of the home, so will be around to answer any questions and get you oriented. We love meeting no folks but don't always have time to socialize at length
Other things to note
WE HAVE A DOG, TWO CATS, AND A BABY. There is a white noise machine in your room and guests have consistently told us that they sleep soundly without interruption from below, but you may occasionally hear little Eloise. And if you're allergic or wary of pets, this may not be the place for you. All are very sweet and harmless, though the dog is a little skittish around strangers.
Smoking outside only please

Sarah and I came from Atlanta for grad school in 2012 and have found a home in Durham. Over the past few years we've built and designed our ideal home, adopted a pup to compliment our cats, and welcomed our daughter Eloise into the world. We love our neighborhood of friendly folks and the Durham/Triangle blend of metropolitan cultural offerings with the relaxed pace of a small southern town. We generally spend as much time as possible outdoors: working in our garden, reading on our porch, relaxing with a beer and friends at FullSteam, or hiking or biking one of the many trails around town. When forced indoors we enjoy cooking and hitting up live music all over the triangle. Though we feel strongly that there's no place like home, we also feel the itch to travel when able. Hosting helps to subsidize our own shoestring adventures not otherwise possible on our income. We'd love to help you explore Durham, the happening place we're proud to call home.
