Hello and welcome to The Tower House,

We love our little quirky house and we hope you do too. This is a very old part of Cork City and a lot of development work is starting to take place around this area. It attracts a lot of artistic and creative people. From the living room you can see the spire of St Finbarr’s Cathedral. It is a must see on your visit to Cork. University College Cork is just a walk away as is the Crawford College of Art and Design.
The City Centre is on your doorstep, just a short walk down Barrack St and you are there. Go down the lane at the side of the house and turn right down Barrack St and cross the river. There you will find The English Market, much loved by the people of Cork for its amazing food. It has also become famous because it was visited by the Queen of England on her first visit to Ireland. Go and check out the Fishmonger who presented a very ugly fish to Queen Elizabeth, she laughed out loud when he described the fish as “The Mother in Law”. Prince Charles and his wife have recently visited the Market and the City.
Cork City and County is renowned for its fantastic food. There are too many restaurants to mention here. A visit to the town of Kinsale is just a bus ride away. It is famous for its sea food and the town itself is wonderful. It’s like stepping back in time, so don’t miss it.
If you want to stay closer to home just go down the lane at the side of the house and one of the best Irish pubs, Tom Barry’s is across the road on Barrack St. It is a traditional Irish pub and it has a great Beer Garden, it also serves great food and has the best Pizza in town. Next to it is a lovely French themed bar and restaurant. Go down the hill and you will find a number of small cafe’s and take away’s. At the end of the hill turn right up Evergreen St and you will find Miyazaki, a tiny Japanese Restaurant and take away. The owner has just opened an award winning Restaurant in the City Centre. Go up Barracks St and you will find Lennox’s Fish and Chip shop, the best in the City.
There is a small supermarket on Barrack St where you can purchase fresh milk and bread etc. At the end of Barrack St. turn right and you will find a wonderful Vegetarian shop and restaurant called the Quay Co Op. Cross the Bridge and you are on The South Mall, from a side street leading off this is the English Market. At the back of the Market on a side St you will find Iago’s an Italian food shop selling fantastic fresh pasta for you to take away and cook at home. Check out their wonderful supply of cheese also.
Please enjoy your stay at The Tower House and Cork City, we would please ask you to be aware and respect our neighbours. For your protection and theirs the gate must always be closed on entering and leaving. As a bit of pressure is needed to close the gate please try not to bang it loudly especially at night. Lock the house door when you are in the building and of course when you leave.
Best Wishes
Noel & Martina Keane
