What a peaceful place! The gorge in the back made for a fantastic relief from the unseasonably warm temperatures.

This cozy cabin is a gem! My boyfriend was competing in the Green Mountain Disc Golf Tournament, so I had been looking for a while for affordable, comfortable, and convenient lodging. The cabin was only 15-20 minutes from Smuggler's Notch (where the tournament was held) - perfect! It was so quiet and tranquil. There's a walking trail right by the cabin that leads to a gorge with gorgeous waterfalls and clear, crisp water. We couldn't help but jump in a couple of the natural pools! The cabin is not only adorable, but super clean and organized. Lisa had plenty of instructions so we knew where everything was, how everything worked and how to make the most of our trip. It was the perfect mountain getaway - you feel out-of-touch with the rest of the world, but still have all of your comforts and necessities like a full in-house bathroom and wifi. We loved the screened-in porch. While we were staying at the cabin, we drove through the Notch and visited Stowe and Jeffersonville. We hiked Mount Mansfield (also very close by) all the way to the tip of the "Chin" - the highest point in Vermont! The "Long Trail" to the top was an intense hike in my book, but well worth the views. In terms of food, we got some great sandwiches from The Family Table restaurant in Jeffersonville. We also really enjoyed Piecasso in Stowe and Hearth & Candle at the Smuggler's Notch Resort. Before heading home to Connecticut, we also visited Burlington - only about 40 minutes from the cabin. Lisa was also a great host because she always responded to messages/requests quickly and was very flexible and understanding of unexpected itinerary changes. Overall, we would definitely visit the cabin again, and highly recommend it!

Response from Lisa:
I'm so happy that you enjoyed the cabin so much! Thanks for the additional restaurant recommendations. I have my favorites and don't venture out to others very often, so it's nice for other guests to hear what's recommended. I also agree about the hike up to Mansfield… very tough, but worth the climb! And, I cannot imagine how cold the swim at the gorge was! You are courageous. Hope you can come again!

We expected the cabin to be a cozy base from which to explore Mt. Mansfield, Burlington, Stowe, and Waterbury, but it ended up being much more than that. We were initially dismayed to see some serious rain in the forecast for Sunday, but the time spent on the screened porch--which has a view that gives a treehouse feel--reading next to some candles and listening to the rain falling will be one of the most memorable moments of the long weekend. It's a comfortable and thoughtfully prepared space with some basic creature comfort supplies. The coffee beans on hand were immensely appreciated our first morning. Even though we never saw them, Lisa and the caretaker made us feel very welcome and comfortable with good communication and helpful notes (on aesthetically pleasing birch bark!) around the cabin. Very comfortable bed with a plethora of pillows ensured it felt like a true vacation. The well supplied kitchen will let you create some great meals with the goodies you bring home from farmers' markets. The immediate area is private but not alone-in-the-woods-creepy private with a great forest and creek to explore. Or you could just sit on the screened in porch and soak in the sounds of the forest with a good book. Nearby, the superb state parks offer some great hikes. Lisa has a book with a variety of maps and such so that you would never need to connect to the internet to find something to do. The combination of no cell service and good wifi was a nice balance for me, but this could be a wonderful place to fully disconnect. 40 min away, Stowe was a little too upscale tourist-y for us, but nearby Waterbury had much better atmosphere with great food. Burlington is of course a very special city and sunsets over the lake should not be missed.

Wow, Ian, you should be a travel writer! Thanks so much for the great definition of what it's like to be at the cabin. You said it perfectly. You were the first to enjoy the screening of the porch, and I'm so glad you utilized it to the utmost! Do come back again. You are welcome!

The cabin is exactly as advertised. It is quiet and secluded but 20 mins away from everything you need. Be sure to explore mt. Mansfield and the neighboring villages.

Response from Lisa:
Mary Ann, I love the way you call the towns villages, because that's just what they are! Vermont is so, so good at keeping things local and that's part of what I love about it, too. I agree, Mt. Mansfield is a don't miss if you have the strength and time to hike up to the top! Otherwise, you can drive up to toll road from the Stowe side… Do come back again sometime!

The directions and instructions that Lisa provided were perfect. We had no trouble finding the cottage. It looks just the pictures on line and is very comfortable and quiet. It is the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation or as a base to explore that region of Vermont. We highly recommend staying there.

I love to travel and often travel alone or with my husband and our two rescue dogs. Most of my favorite destinations include hiking. When not traveling, I teach ESL and do art and spend as much time outdoors as possible. I love immersing myself in cultures other than my own. I relish quiet or listening to my Pandora station or books on CD. I love people and thrive on good conversation, especially about books and culture!
