Check out the many nice alternative riverside bars along the nearby river. Here you see "Holzmarkt" project. From Friedrichshain, it's only 2 stops in the S-Bahn tube to the center around the TV tower ("Alexanderplatz"). But chances are, you like the neighborhood so much that you will hardly ever leave it :-)

Small room in a great neighborhood, for 2 or 3 persons. It's situated in my beautiful veggie apartment on the top floor - no elevator, sorry! There is a big living room/kitchen, 2 bathrooms, my room, and one more guest room.

The space

I moved to Berlin recently. The apartment is cozy and colorful, but still a bit work in progress, so I hope you don't mind a bit of chaos. Think boxes full of books in the corner :-)

Your bedroom is very small. It's OK for 3 persons, but only if you want to use it mostly to sleep. Which is exactly what most of my visitors want: The city offers so much to discover, and the flat is cosy and charming, and well located.
The room sleeps 3: one on a simple bed, and two on a double mattress in a cave-like elevated surface just below the ceiling, which you reach by climbing a ledder.
The room has a nice view into the green backyard (squirrels often come by for a visit).

Please be nice and considerate towards our neighbors.
Our apartment is vegetarian, so please don't bring any meat or meat products.
We ask all guests to take off their shoes.
Smoking is only permitted on the terrace (summer only).
Please help us save the planet by saving electricity: Please don't turn the heating on and open the windows at the same time, and turn the lights off when leaving a room.

Guest access

You have your own bedroom.
We will share the rest of the flat:
- living room with attached kitchen with all the stuff that define a kitchen (welcome to cook, but PLEASE note that we ask guests not to bring any meat into the apartment)
- roof terrace - summer only (the only place where smoking is allowed)
- two bathrooms (one of which I need to reserve for myself in the morning when rushing to the office).

Interaction with guests

If I'm in town, I'll also stay in the apartment. Always happy to have a coffee and a chat with guests.

Other things to note

The apartment is in the top floors of a 5-storey high building. Sorry, there is no elevator, so you'll have to climb quite a few stairs.

Jens was an awesome host, the best I've had through airbnb. He is so kind and helpful; the room and bathroom had little tips, tricks, and places to see in Berlin which made visiting Berlin for the first time much easier. The location was awesome with food, bars, and clubs located within walking distance. We would uber throughout Berlin and realize that the airbnb is located right smack in the middle of where we wanted to go, and would find ourselves walking home instead. :)

The room would be quite small for 3 though manageable for 2 persons. The room was clean but the rest of the flat wasn't as clean. The kitchen is big and functionnal but not everything is shining clean. Otherwise, Jens is a charming host with whom you can have a great discussion. He is welcoming and a true helper. The neighborhood is awesome with 3 differents grocery store between the flat and the S-Bahn. Great location and not far away from the main attractions considering the fact that Berlin is a spread out city.

I appreciate your feedback, and apologize if the kitchen was not always perfect. There were other guests in the apartment, and as I had long days at work, often I could only clean late in the evening. Sorry!

Jens is a really nice guy. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. The location was somewhat out of the center of the city but still very good reachable and with restaurants and shops nearby.

Thank you, it was great to have you here! Regarding the location: Berlin is very widespread, so wherever you stay, you always have dome distances to cover. If you stay in the "center" (Mitte), you have many tourist attractions nearby, but in the evening it's a dead area. Colorful districts like Friedrichshain (our hood), Kreuzberg or Prenzlauer Berg are a bit further from the museums and monuments, but offer a lot of fun, nightlife and alternative culture.

Our stay at Jens' and Selma's was great. We enjoyed the freedom they gave us and the sympathy of their welcoming. The location is perfect, as a true Berlin lover I can tell you how great it is, everything you need is near, and the amazing boxie neighborhood is 10 minutes walk. Just know that they'll be fully prepared to host you and they will do it well. Thanks again for this stay, we really enjoyed!!

I love traveling and politics - and found a job to combine the two. So now I work in the diplomatic service, moving to a new place every few years. I lived in Brazil, Nigeria and Bosnia for a while, and moved back to Berlin in summer 2015.
