Spectacular cliff edge location, wild and remote, 5km from the village of Leabgarrow. The lighthouse, which is still operational, is at the end of the garden. The houses are two three bedroomed semi-detached houses, former Lightkeepers' dwellings.
The remote location.... a house perched on a cliff, at the tip of a remote headland, on an island off the north west coast of Ireland, on the very edge of Europe makes this a unique 'get away from it all' experience. Add to that a functioning lighthouse at the bottom of the garden and you have a place which is very special indeed. The house is one of two semi-detached houses, the second house may also be rented, ideal for a large group.
Guests have access to the entire house as well as to the grounds in the vicinity of the lighthouse. Unfortunately the lighthouse is the property of Irish Lights and guests cannot have access to the lighthouse itself. However because the lighthouse is still functioning, guests have a wonderful view, at night from the garden, of the light beaming out over the ocean. It is magical!
Interaction with guests
The remote location means that it is difficult for me to have much interaction with guests. My uncle who worked as a Lighthouse Attendant before his retirement, now looks after the keys for the houses for me and enjoys meeting guests and telling them the history of the lighthouse.
