Both bedrooms have en-suite facilities (one being a Jack & Jill bathroom with a door leading from the master bedroom & another off the landing.

A generous fully fitted modern kitchen with every detail taken care of to ensure you enjoy every aspect of your stay. This isn’t shabby chic, this is attention to fine detail. There is a built in filter coffee machine and a Tassimo Pod Machine.

Styled influences have been built around the original structure of what was once a barn, retaining Yorkshire Stone features and exposed oak beams commanding a refreshingly different charm.

As you can see from the photographs we can get snow in the Winter! This may mean that due to the road conditions you may not be able to leave on your scheduled day. Although we plan for this & can help guests with extra groceries etc please realise we cannot hirer in a snow plough! So if you unable to embrace the idea of been snowed in for a couple of days as beautiful as it looks you may prefer to book the cottage in the Spring, Summer or Autumn.

Where you’ll be

Westerdale, England, United Kingdom

Swallow Cottage is situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, surrounded by the impressive moorland countryside of North Yorkshire. Often referred to as the North Yorkshire Moors there is over 550 square miles of heather moorland, forests, fields, valleys and coastline all within the National Park.

Your stay at Swallow Cottage is set in one of the most picturesque valleys and is ideally located for exploring the whole area throughout the year.
A short drive eastwards through the moors takes you to the wonderful fishing port of Whitby with its attractive harbour, cliffs and cliff-top abbey.

To the South-East, the market town of Pickering where each Monday there is a traditional street market, a castle and the starting point for the world famous North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway.

The moors village of Goathland (famous as the location of ‘Heartbeat’ TV series) is within easy reach and one of the stops on the steam railway. The station here was also used in the filming of Harry Potter.

To the South-West is the ancient market town of Helmsley with its historic castle, quaint town square, narrow streets and the Victorian Helmsley Walled Garden alongside the stately home and estate of Duncombe Park.

To the North-West the rolling moorland leads to the Cleveland Hills where Roseberry Topping towers over the surrounding landscape.

Closer by there is the North York Moors Visitor Centre at Danby en-route to Whitby, or the open air museum of Ryedale Folk Museum in the pretty village of Hutton le Hole – where sheep and lambs still graze within the village. The award winning wedding venue of Danby Castle is also nearby.

Slightly further afield there is Flamingo Land with it’s theme park and zoo, Playdale Farm and on the coast, the seaside town of Scarborough offering the Sea Life Centre.
There are the pretty seaside villages of Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay & Sandsend which have coastal walks between them.

Castle Howard is also well worth a visit with it’s world-famous historic house, formal gardens, lake woodland walks.

The beautiful historic city of York is about an eighty-minute drive into the centre. Alternatively, York’s Monks Cross Park & Ride facility is only an hour away.

I’ve lived on the North York Moors for over 30 years. I love the Moors & Coast & am proud of our beautiful varied Yorkshire scenery. I have a passion for animals & I’d probably describe myself as a full time pet collector as you will see if you visit my cottage. We look forward to welcoming guests to my converted Ryedale barn & helping them to create lasting memories in this peaceful location.
