65 acres to yourself in lovely Prince Edward County - Ontario's up & coming wine region and home to Sandbanks Provincial Park. Enjoy a comfy 3 bed country cottage, hikes in forest, 10 wineries less than 10 minutes away!

The space

A partially newly renovated country-chic cottage with two bathrooms, king size bed in the master suite, queen bed in the second bedroom and daybed (that can be pulled out to a queen) in the downstairs den. Full size dining room, fully equipped kitchen and cozy new wood burning stove with ready cut wood in living area.

Enjoy the sunrise on 1 of 2 decks, watch the sunset from the second. The perfect country getaway - whether you want to curl up and read, explore the great outdoors in private, or enjoy all The County has to offer.

**Please note the main floor and downstairs bathroom are still under renovation but should not impede your stay at all. The downstairs bathroom is also under renovation and is very rustic! The upstairs is completely newly renovated. The back deck is also being rebuilt which is expected to be done summer 2018. There's a side deck set up with furniture, a BBQ and cushions/pillows for your use and comfort. **

Guest access

Sleep in and wake up with the sun. Enjoy your morning cup and let the day melt away. Perhaps a hike through the forest? Hang out by the creek or on the hammock? Take a walk to the beaver pond, play catch, kick a ball, enjoy the great outdoors. Bike ride to nearby wineries (more than 10 within 5km) or to nearby North Beach on Lake Ontario and the charm of the Village of Wellington (even Prince Charles came here recently). Or discover your own little secret part of The County - the possibilities are endless.

Interaction with guests

As much or as little as you like. We won't be around during your stay but are always available via message or phone. We'll offer plenty of tips and assistance to make your time away from home as comfortable and memorable as possible.

Other things to note

If you want to explore all the property has to offer, best to bring a pair of rubber boots. Bug spray and sunscreen are a safe bet if you're going to be outside for awhile. There are 4 bikes for your use.

We have a seasonal provincial park pass at the cottage for access to nearby Sandbanks, North Beach and Presquile Parks valid from Apr-Nov.

Our cottage is old and quaint. The upstairs is fully renovated but the main floor and deck are still being worked on. We ask for your understanding while we improve our 1872 farmhouse! We are providing a quiet, fun and relaxing cottage away from it all.

Note - Every autumn the nearby wineries utilize bird bangers to deter the bird from eating the grapes. This is necessary but annoying and totally out of our control. The cannons go off sparingly from 7am-8pm from Sep-Oct.

House Rules
No smoking
Check in time is flexible

The big rule is no smoking in the house (cans outside on the decks). Beyond that - be kind, respect the property and enjoy yourself. Small, house trained pets are welcome but no big dogs please as we've just recently installed new hardwood floors. Also dogs must stay in the back of the property and not near our neighbour as they are sensitive about dogs in their yard. Happy to have children but please bring baby gates (we have dishes, booster).

Please remember this is a country home which is different than being in the city so please be gentle on our septic system and well usage.

Also please put everything back when you leave.

Hosts are very welcoming and place was exactly as described. We had everything we needed for four women coming to experience wine country. Great location. Homey cottage feel - will look great when the renos are done!

Second floor two bedrooms and bath finished beautifully. Main floor needs a lot of work but everything useable. Kitchen well stocked. Great ouydoor decks.

We spent 2 nights at Carmella and Clayton's house and had such a great time. The property is very big and we enjoyed exploring the grounds with our 3 year old. We were also able to use the brand new deck which is amazing for enjoying the sunset and star gazing. The beds were so comfy and the upstairs master suite is just beautiful. I wish we could have spent longer there. The only drawback was the various nearby "bird bangers" (aka cannons) going off all day long. They start at 7am and end around 8pm which was a little annoying in the morning but apparently without them farmers could lose entire crops of grapes to the birds. At least it's not a year round issue, just around harvest season I think. Otherwise, perfect location next to all the pretty vineyards along Closson Road. You wouldn't need your car to go tasting. Thank you Carmella and Clayton!

Rustic cottage with thoughtful renovations. We wish we had know that the nearby farms were using cannons to keep the birds away at this time of year. Loud cannon bangs from 6 am till 8 pm every few minutes.

This is the second time we came back to the Closson Cottage. It was even better than the first time we came! The back deck was great to hang out and stars gazing at night. =) Thanks for having us back!
