I only met Manu briefly but Ali does a good job taking care of things. The property has over 10 rooms in total and is ideally suited for young people. It is more like a hostel/small hotel/dorm. I met many nice people. The internet in my room did not work well, but supposedly new internet is coming soon. Wifi works well in the common area. It is also not as fresh as depicted in the picture, the building is old. Lots of updating/painting/carpeting is in progress. though. There is a busy road out front so bring earplugs. A supermarket is 10 min walk, the five ways train station 20 min.

The block of rooms acts as a hostel with common use of kitchen, living room and bathrooms. What I really liked about this place was interacting with other people, that are basically international young students or professionals who try to find their way in Birmingham. Very sociable! The neighbourhood, although on the border of a rather dodgy area of the city, is quite central, convenient and rather safe. Manu was abroad but was quick to respond (emails, (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN), Tel), flexible and fair. Ali, who acts as Manu’s representative is nice and helpful. The availability of specific rooms on the calendar is not always as described (eg I did not stay in D5 but in D3), but again Manu is good in communicating. Overall, the rooms are not luxurious but are a fair deal, similar to what you find in a hostel.

Photos very different the reality.Kinda clean but kind grungy. Old but in need of serious repairs. A bit of a polyester cotton experience and reluctantly given a tea bag. Manu was there floating in the background but it was the other guy who was clearly running the show. Would I stay again. Not for me although I did have a sound sleep.

Hi Jacques, please note we already informed you on arrival that the place was undergoing renovation and re-decorating and that the room given to you was not for short term normally. Also you arrived much later than normal guests and of course the photos at daytime look quite different to night time. As for the teabag there was no hesitation and I even showed you where I keep my personal ones for you to take. The short term flat has a cupboard full with free to use teabags, coffee etc; so why would there be any reluctance, I just think your poor and reading people. As mentioned on Manu's profile I have been looking after the place for several months for him so of course it looked like I was running the place as I have been whilst he was away. Manu only just recently returned back 2 days before you and was catching up with all the bookings and how everything was. I am quite disappointed with such harsh review considering you only stayed 1 night and not even talking to us hardly or really checking the place. Furthermore please note your eating of dinner in the bedroom and eating on the bed left strong curry stains on the duvet cover that we couldn't remove and had to throw away. Even though a large desk in the bedroom and a shared living room was available to you this was not used for eating your dinner. So we didn't get a great benefit from you staying either - Ali

We had a very pleasant stay at Manu's house. The room was spacious enough for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), kitchen, bathroom and living room are cleaned on a daily basis, so happy with that. Location is really good, close to shops, sightseeings and there is a nice play area for little ones near the house. We have met some great people, who share the house and overall experience was very good. It is a nice place, very well priced and located and Ali was very kind and helpful at all times.

The place has just been renovated (October 2015), based on comments and advise left by previous guests but if you still have any specific issue you would like to highlight, please be kind enough to let me know this when you are here in person as direct feedback is also welcomed. Thanks

Floors have been re-carpeted, all walls have been re-painted, new front door, new locks, new flat screen TVs, brand new fridges, dryers, ceramic hobs, etc. Please note as the property itself is quite aged it cannot be modernized as most people understand without making major structural changes.

We know it's not always easy but we like when there's opportunity to share some time with guests, going out, etc, and since there are 7 rooms, and in most of them 2-3 months guests, usually there is always somebody in the living room to talk with. We appreciate guests who don't stay 90% of their free time inside the room and they contribute to the community spirit

We have an online group where we keep in touch and we organize activities like dinners, etc

There's a great South East Indian/Sri Lankan restaurant (Spice Town, previously Chennai Dosa) close to my house where we like having dinner with our guests when it's possible.

Less than 1 minute walking you can find the 2 towers which inspired JRR Tolkien to write The Lord of the Rings (One of them is visible from the bedrooms) and 2 mins walking from The Oratory where he used to participate and 1 minute from The Plough and Harrow hotel where he stayed as well.

The property is located 5-6mins walking distance to the Botanical Gardens and 7-8mins walk to the Edgbaston Reservoir
