The view from here is simply amazing. The large bedroom windows look at the Himalayas and you can see the whole of Kathmandu valley from the private balcony.

Our home is also very strong and not affected at all by the recent earthquake.

The space

There is access to a large, spacious balcony where you can enjoy meals and look out across the Himalayan mountain range.

The main room is very spacious, with storage units so you unpack and make it your own. This room doubles as a bedroom and living room, with a curtain separating the two beds at night.

There is a private bathroom with toilet, shower and sink. Towels, soaps and toilet paper will be provided.

The kitchen has loads of space for storage of goods that you can buy at the markets. We are happy to point you in the right direction if you want some tips on shopping locally!

There is an inverter (power back up) in case of a black out. The house in a safe neighbourhood and not affected by the earthquake.

Guest access

There are no limitations with concern to the apartment, and no shared areas other than the staircase to the apartment which is on the second floor.

Interaction with guests

We will be here to help if needed. Feel free to ask!
We are more than happy to pick you up at the airport and bring you to the apartment where we will hand the keys over to you.

Gopal and Lamu's place is in a nice neighborhood of Kathmandu and their house is built beautifully. They know how to make you feel at home, especially in the small details. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival and everything from fruit and biscuits on our kitchen table, an extra toothbrush, cold water in the fridge, all of this was done with great attentiveness and care. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you can think of and stocked with small quantities of spices, oil, coffee, herbs etc. Again this shows how Lamu and Gopal makes you feel as if you are home! Fruit and veg stalls are spread out across the first main street and it is very nice to cook in the kitchen with the windows open as there are mosquito net covering the windows as well. The apartment and whole house is also very clean and well maintained. Internet, a few plugs and lights are furthermore running on backup power, so we never had any problems with the outages. We stayed for about 5 weeks. Great apartment and even better hosts, will recommend it to anyone looking for a place outside of the main tourist attraction area. Instead, search for the nursery garden's restaurant close by, go to the national park, take a minibus into Thamel, and explore the small streets and people of the neighborhood.

This is the place to stay...a bit out of the center of the city, but I liked that. You have everything, almost as if living at home. Whenever there was some problem, it was fixed quickly. Highly recommended... Dwight

The best place to rent in Kathmandu. As others have stated, Gopal and Jiing are just amazing people in all respects. From the time I arrive until the time I left I felt completely at home, and their dedication to providing schooling to so many children is absolutely astonishing. This place is everything advertised and so much more. It is outside the tourist areas and after a day of Themal you are going to want the quiet view of the mountains and your own deck to relax on. The location is perfect. I spent a lot of time just wandering around the local area and there is no shortage of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walk of the apartment. I would recommend spending at least a couple days just strolling around close to the apartment and interacting with the locals of the area, as there are very few tourists around and you will find hidden gems all over the place. Don't worry about the language, just walk right into any little restaurant and try the local food. You can find the best wood fire baked naan bread in Kathmandu within a few minutes walk, there are 2 big grocery stores a short hop down the street, and fruit and vegetable vendors all over the place. Don't be fooled into staying in the busy areas of Kathmandu, this is where you want to be. If you need ANYTHING at all Gopal and Jiing will either find it for you, or tell you where to get it. When you stay here you are not only taken care of while you are at home, you are also taken care of wherever you go in Kathmandu. I felt as if they were always by my side, so go ahead and jump into a Tuk Tuk, take it wherever it goes, eat what you find, don't worry about anything because if you do manage to find yourself hopelessly lost, all it takes is a piece of paper with Gopal's number and you will be pointed in the right direction with one phone call. Everyone in Kathmandu has a cell phone and is more than willing to help you. After a day of sight seeing I cannot stress how nice it is to come home and watch the sun set from the lawn on the roof, far from the crowds and congestion of the busier area of Kathmandu. Getting anywhere is easy. There is a taxi stand about a minute away and in my 2 week stay, I never had to wait for a ride. You can get to know the local shopkeepers and become a part of the neighborhood if you want to, even if you have no language in common, a smile says it all. If I could give this place 1 billion stars I would. I cannot think of one single thing wrong with this apartment, everything is right. When you stay here you are one of the family.

The stay at Gopal’s apartment was excellent. He treated us like we were family and was very helpful with travel tips and information. The house was beautiful and the apartment was lager with a very nice terrace and rooftop. Gopal helped us with directions and showed us restaurant and markets nearby and even gave us a ride a few times. It was inspiring to hear about his work in rebuilding the school after the earthquake.

I have lived abroad for many years, most recently in the UK. My wife Lamu and I love visiting new places, meeting new people and have traveled throughout the US, Europe, S. America, Europe and Asia.

We are now based in Kathmandu, Nepal and are helping a school in Helambu, Sindhupalchowk which was damaged by the earthquake in 2015. Lamu and I operate this small hospitality service from our beautiful home in Bansbari. Our apartments are strong and are not affected by the recent earthquake.
