Otter Chalet sleeps 12, with 2 baths, on 7 acres on Lake Everest, right next to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, and features hot tub, outdoor sauna, landscaped yard with campfire, wood stove and great views of Whiteface Mountain.

The space

Otter Chalet is on 7 private waterfront acres along Lake Everest, right next to the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge. One of Wilmington's most popular private rentals, Otter Chalet has 2 large bedrooms, 3 full baths, a sleeping dorm with 3 thick, comfortable and queen-sized futons and Satellite TV, a sleeping loft with a queen futon, two 42" HDTV Flat Screen TVs with Satellite, and great views of Whiteface Mountain and the Ausable River. Otter Chalet can comfortably sleep 12.

At Otter Chalet, the kids can safely camp outside, and draw their sleeping bags up to a roaring campfire, or camp inside in the dorm room, where they can play the Chalet's air hockey and foos-ball games, or watch Satellite TV. Log Cabin Wet Sauna, hot tub, satellite TV, DVD, VCR, stereo, high-speed wireless internet, microwave, barbecue, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and linens will help make Otter Chalet a convenient and hassle free vacation.

Folks who stay at Otter Chalet may use the canoe and 3 kayaks provided on the river and Lake Everest without charge. Otter Chalet enjoys unimpeded views of Whiteface, Esther, Lookout and Marble Mountains, while the Wildlife Refuge next door includes an official New York State DEC Fishing Preserve within its Northern boundary, a guided, wildlife refuge hiking trail suitable for kids and dogs, and a lovely Adirondack meadow, suitable for picnics or snow football, surrounded by towering white pines.

Otter Chalet is less than three miles driving from Whiteface Mountain, and within 10 miles of Lake Placid, the Olympic village, and the Adirondack High Peaks Region. Otter Chalet is on the edge of the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge, where your kids will get to meet wolves, bobcat, foxes, bald eagle and other birds of prey, while learning about their roles in nature.

Canoe or kayak up and down the beautiful Ausable River, swim, fish for your dinner, or just sit back and observe as the local natural inhabitants play, browse, pursue and earn survival. We've seen Eagle, Hawk, Owl, Osprey, Loon, Heron, Merganser, Hummingbird, Pileated Woodpecker, Ermine, Bobcat, Fox, Coyote, Black Bear, Mink, Beaver, Porcupine, Deer, and Otter on Otter Chalet property, but the only people you'll see are folks paddling by in canoes and kayaks. Canoe into shallow water sloughs and channels on both sides of the river, where your kids will delight in seeing beaver, otter, frogs, painted turtles and herons.

Hike any of the hundreds of trails in the region, mountain-bike, snow-shoe, cross-country ski up and down the river in front of the houses, downhill ski at Whiteface (or ride the gondola up with your mountain bike in the Summer), take fly fishing lessons, or just drive around and take in the incomparable beauty of Autumn in New York's Adirondack Mountains. In the evening, relax around the campfire outside, take in the stars, listen to the Wilmington Riverside rock & country concerts every Thursday night within 2 miles of the Lodge, or go into Lake Placid for dining and entertainment.

Otter Chalet is a place to get away from it all, to rebuild, regroup, and face your busy lives with a renewed perspective. For those of you who are new to the Adirondacks, prepare to discover what we learned long ago (and weve hiked in parks all over the US, Canada and Alaska). There is no lovelier place in the world to vacation than the Adirondack Mountains: the Adirondacks has it all.

During the Summer season, Otter Chalet rents from Saturday-to-Saturday, and has a 2 night minimum stay the rest of the year. House trained dogs are permitted, & no smoking inside. A cleaning fee of $110, & a refundable $250 security deposit apply to all rentals. The security deposit will be returned to guest assuming there are no damages to the rental home. Otter Chalet was the perfect place for our family vacation. The house is great (easily slept 12) and the landscaping is immaculate. Being right on the river allowed us to go kayaking and fishing everyday. Being right next to the Wildlife Refuge also provided another convenient activity where the staff there was very accommodating. The view of Whiteface Mountain from the back deck was amazing. The cabin is also within 20 mins of most local destinations. (Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid, hiking trails, etc.) Great place if you like nature/the outdoors. Communication with Stephen fast and clear. Would love to go back again.

Our family vacation at Otter Chalet was wonderful. The place offers everything promised. The location is convenient to Lake Pacid and Lake Champlain and the many activities around both. And the Chalet & property are wonderful. With a private dock on Lake Everest, and a canoe and kyacks provided, exploring the lake/river, fishing, etc. provide a lot of opportunities for fun. Then there is the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge next door, which Stephen and his family, along with a host of volunteers maintain. We spent a great deal of time exploring paths and visiting the animals, which include wolves, cyotes, foxes, owls, eagles, and host of others, and is expanding, so we can't wait to visit again and see the new additions. And then there is the hot tub, sauna, fire pit, as well as the air hockey and foosball tables in the basement. We had plenty to do, and loved our stay. It's just a shame it went by so quickly.

Perfect weekend getaway for a group of friends (3 couples). The refuge (so many cool animals) is amazing and wonderful people run it along with this chalet. The location is close to skiing and close enough to good restaurants for dinner. It happened to be -11 the weekend we visited so no one wanted to try the grill, but it's nice to know it's there. The hot tub under the stars after a long, cold, gorgeous day on the slopes was fantastic. Thanks for making this space available!

The Otter Chalet was more than great! Foosball tournament was wild! Accommodated our group of 12 adults and 2 pups extremely well, with plenty of space left over. A couple people in our group went to the wildlife refuge and had nothing but great things to say. Wolves will howl at night which is eerie but awesome. Will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Otter Chalet with a group of 10 people (2 couples) and all of us slept comfortably. We loved the chalet feel with the wood stove and mountain views, surrounded by woods and the river. The fact that it's only a few minutes from Whiteface was great too. Nothing like relaxing in a hot tub after a long day of skiing. There was also plenty to do for our non-skiing friends, namely the animal sanctuary right next door. Would happily visit again in the future.
