Right on the bike highway with a walkscore in the high 90s, this little hotspot has great light, Fiber Optic Internet, and many restaurants, bars, movie theaters in walking distance. Between Hawthorne & Division, something is nearby for everyone!

The space

The property is approximately 700 square feet and has great natural light at all hours while being both quiet and near all manner of visitors' destinations for food, drink, movies, celebration, and fun.

Guest access

We have on-site laundry, kitchen, dishwasher, Fiber Optic Internet, excellent natural lighting, and a scenic backyard for sitting, fruit trees and bushes, a beautiful front yard and many cozy places to drink a cup of coffee indoors or out. We have an accessory dwelling unit in our backyard that is occupied by someone who can help if there are issues.

Interaction with guests

When guests are present, the house proper is otherwise unoccupied. We have a detached accessory dwelling unit in our backyard that is occupied by someone who can help if there are problems or concerns. In general, interaction can be as minimal as you'd like as well as private.

Other things to note

Guests would be responsible to feed breakfast and dinner to Tigger the Cat as well as letting him in and out as he requests. He's a charmer and the neighbor takes care of him when no one is around but it's less obtrusive for guests.

The location is great, but the cleanliness of the house leaves something to be desired. Sheets are rinsed, not washed with soap (as noted in the speedy cleaning instructions I found in the kitchen), floors are unwashed and the house has a pervasive kitty litter odor. My sisters and I were hoping for a relaxing trip, but spent as little time inside the home as possible. Wouldn't recommend a stay here if you're optimizing for comfort or a nice stay; really on the hostel-level, no frills.

Response from Joe:
Our house is over 100 years old and a cat does live there so it does not have the same features as new construction, so it's not suited for someone seeking a hotel or suburban home and we believe that the lower cost more than makes up for this. Portland law requires that houses be occupied by their residents nine months of the year so there are further limitations on accommodation as a result. I'm not sure what "instructions" you found as we don't have written instructions for the cleaner who has been doing the work for over a year. We do wash the sheets with soap and have six different sets for this reason.

Joe's place was cute and so convenient to Hawthorne! There was also a really good breakfast place around the corner, trinket, with the best al pastor breakfast tacos! I may have skipped this in the ad, but there is a cat guests are responsible for feeding so not for those who don't like cats. ;)

Perfectly situated, walking distance to tons of great eateries, bars and shops. Also right next door to a bike shop if you brought your bike and got a flat tire (like we did). Highly recommend this place. If the location wasn't enough, the shelves of this house are lined with great reads. Joe was also very helpful when we needed to extend our stay by one day.

Joes home is great, and located in a wonderful area in Portland. The home is well cared and truly reflects the over atmosphere in Portland. Tiger is great and not overwhelming, very easy to care for. The roses around the house are very fragrant, this place is exactly what we we were looking for and we enjoyed are stay very much
