Where you’ll be

Newport, Rhode Island, United States

The Narragansett Bay is noted for its spectacular beauty as well as its premier sunset cruises and afternoon sailing. Step back to the days when Newport, RI was a bustling port town and summer retreat for the country's elite. Take a scenic journey down Ocean Drive and the Cliffwalk. America's Cup Charters is available for all your seafaring adventures, while Fort Adams, The National Museum of American Illustration, and The International Tennis Hall of Fame are some additional attractions to discover. Visit the Brick Market Place for seaport shopping and dining. Check out St. Mary's Church, just blocks away from the resort, where JFK and Jackie O. were married. National Historic Landmarks such as the Hunter House, Vernon House and Colony House are minutes away. Take a tour of the opulent colonial mansions, just one mile away. Newport is also the perfect jumping off point for day trips to Providence, Cape Cod and Nantucket. Book day trip tours with the help of the professional staff at the front desk. And don't miss a trip to Flo's Clam Shack for some of the best ocean-side seafood on the island. Stuffies and Clam cakes are my favorite! It's right across from First Beach. Don't call it Easton's Beach or we'll know you're a tourist, lol!

The famous Newport mansions offer a look into the gilded age - an era of corruption, conspicuous consumption, and unfettered capitalism. The Breakers is a breathtaking 125,339 square foot summer cottage of Cornelius Vanderbilt II. The Marble House, The Elms, Chateau Sur Mer, Kingscote, and Rosecliff are also must-see summer cottages of America's elite including the Astors, Wideners, and Rockefellers. Many Hollywood movies including True Lies, 27 Dresses, The Great Gatsby, Amistad, Dan in Real Life, and Me, Myself, and Irene were filmed at some of these mansions or on Ocean Drive. Jay Leno recently bought the 15,851 square foot mansion Seafair.

Events to grace The Sailing Capital of the World this year include The Newport Oyster Festival, The International Polo Series, The British Motorcar Festival, The Newport Flower Show, The Bristol Fourth of July Parade – the oldest Fourth of July parade celebration in America, The Newport Music Festival, The 12 Metre World championship, The Newport-Shimoda Sister City Celebration, The Hall of Fame Open, The Newport Folk Festival, Bridgefest/Newport, The Newport Jazz Festival, The Newport International Boat Show, The Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival, Audrain's Newport Concours & Motor Week, The Rogue Island Comedy Festival, Bowen's Wharf Seafood Festival, Newport Restaurant Week, Christmas at the Newport Mansions, and Christmas in Newport.
