Perched on a secluded canyon rim in the heart of San Diego, this light and airy studio cottage is only 1.5 miles from the Zoo and Balboa Park. Perfect for one or two, it has canyon views and is dog friendly. Optional pet sitting services offered.
This property is on a secluded single lane street that runs along a ridge in a quiet residential neighborhood in the heart of San Diego. This cottage is one of two buildings on the property (the other being Aurelia's little house on the street) and is set back behind a beautiful wooden fence. It is perched on the edge of an expansive canyon and is light and airy and comfortably furnished for one or two people. On the back side french doors open onto a balcony with a northeastern exposure offering an exquisite canyon view. Numerous birds, including hawks, and even a owl or two, frequent the canyon and sometimes fly by at, or below, eye level. Bird song fills the air all day.
Guests will have access to the Zen garden that is at the entrance to the cottage and access to the patios, terraces, and balconies on the back side of the property.
Interaction with guests
Aurelia lives in the main house on the property and will be in and out. Cate and Barry live down the street a few blocks. All three of us will be available if needed. One of the beauties of the cottage is the privacy, so interaction with Aurelia is upon your mutual discretion.
Other things to note
While there is not a full kitchen in the cottage, it does have a coffee-maker, small refrigerator, microwave, and a few dining and serving amenities. Breakfast will not be provided everyday, but the cottage is stocked with coffee, tea, fresh fruit, bagels, and cream cheese at the beginning of your stay. Friendly and quiet small to medium-sized dogs are welcome, and dog sitting is available for an extra charge if arranged in advance.
Because this is a quiet residential neighborhood, please no loud or late parties. No smoking tobacco, please. There is no parking on the street. You can park on the street about two blocks away and walk down to the cottage, or there is room for two cars to park in tandem in the driveway. Please let us know if you will have a car during your visit, so we can make parking arrangements with you.
We are a family of artists. Barry and Aurelia draw, paint, and photograph. Cate was a choreographer and modern dancer. As a former architect, Barry designed numerous homes in the San Diego area, including two in our neighborhood (one being our home) that you will drive past on your way to this lovely canyon hideaway. Barry lent his artistic eye to renovating and designing the interior and exterior spaces of this sweet little property that has been in the family for almost 25 years. Cate and Barry have lived in this neighborhood for more than 25 years and Aurelia has lived here all of her 22 years. She now lives in the little grey house at this property, and being an animal enthusiast and magnet, is offering her services as a dog sitter for those canines who accompany their humans during their stay and don't want to be left alone all day while their humans sightsee and visit the Zoo.
