The space

The house, location and the land - you may never be in a house quite like this again. This beautiful 12 sided house with redwood and cedar interior was built on primal lava land. It has strand woven bamboo floors and a 16' high dome ceiling with a 6' wide skylight for moon gazing at night or watching the clouds float by during the day. It is appointed with delightful beds (queen size) and furnishings. There is a queen size futon in the living room.

The house is at 2800'. It can be a bit cool at night (wintertime only) so be sure to bring a sweater for the late evening and morning. The house cools down at night but if you go outside onto the deck first thing in the morning you will warm right up. Beds are toasty warm! If you stay long enough, you will experience just about every kind of weather imaginable! It's all good though. The house is located about eight miles from the ocean as the crow flies.
This area of Hawaii is very rural and removed from the resorts and environment of Kona and Hilo. We are located in the country. Very quiet here. We are located about 1 1/2 hours from both Kona and Hilo International Airports.
Except for the local bar, mostly all businesses are closed up around 9 or 10pm. This area is rugged lava land and vegetation is sparse in many areas.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Eric's house. When we arrived late at night with the house lit up it looked like a space ship on a lunar landscape! The kitchen had everything you could ever need and the bed was really comfy. The far reaching views from the porch were spectacular in the sunshine and at night you could sit out and stargaze as there is virtually no light pollution. Volcano National Park is about an hour away and if you decide to go to Mauna Kea I'd recommend going East via Hilo, it may be slightly longer but the West side roads are slow and there are roadworks east of Kona Airport. The Volcano Winery just down the road from Volcano National Park is worth a visit whilst you're there.

We enjoyed our stay at the LeHua House immensely. It is the best AirBnB accommodation we have stayed in so far. Eric was a great host, quick to respond and very helpful in his suggestions for the Big Island. We took many road trips to different areas of the island. We appreciated the use of the supplied cooler, lawn chairs and other beach supplies that Eric had for his guests to use. It didn't matter if the beach had no shade and the sand was hot since we had the umbrellas and water shoes! We also loved how cool it was in the evening since being from Canada we are not used to heat constantly. And the view of the stars at night was amazing. Highly recommend. Mahalo Eric!

This is such a unique place, in a good way! The house and the neighborhood sit in volcanic rock, so it seems like you're in another planet. The house has 12 sides and the views are stellar. Everything in the house was perfect: comfy beds, fully equipped kitchen and most importantly: Everything was very clean! At night, temperature drops but there are plenty warm blankets in the house. Also, if you appreciate silence you will enjoy staying here, you cannot hear anything at all at night: no traffic, no AC, no crickets, nothing! It was wonderful. Plus, you can see the whole Milky Way at night. If you enjoy night photography, this is the place for you! We really appreciated having beach gadgets available for us: beach umbrella, float noodles, chairs, etc. Eric, the host, is very receptive and communicative. He genuinely cares about you and hopes that you have the best of times during your stay. We followed all his suggestions for places to eat and visit: this was quite helpful because we went to places we wouldn't have find by ourselves. Thank you Eric, for sharing your special house with the world!

We were looking for an eco-friendly location that was away from the crowds, but somewhere that offered some new things for us to experience. Eric's home was a wonderful space that suited our needs perfectly. We appreciated the peacefulness of the surroundings, beauty of the home and proximity to both interesting sights and necessities. We enjoyed the black and green sand beaches, South Point, a 2 hour cave tour, and the Volcano National Park is an easy 1 hour drive away. Eric made sure we had all the information we needed and was a great host. Mehe's was a great restaurant suggestion! Loved it!

A lover of warm weather. I first came to the islands about 15 years ago and immediately knew I would build a home here. I built the house myself (with a bit of help). I love this particular area of Hawaii. I am a ballroom dancer. My favorite dance is perhaps west coast swing…
