Beauty and simplicity characterize this peaceful cottage. Set amid nearly 200 acres of conservation land but within three miles of the shops and restaurants of coastal Freeport, the cottage makes for a perfect getaway.
Filled with light and natural wood, this home has the simple beauty of a seasonal cottage with all of the luxuries of home. Cozy reading spots, a well-equipped kitchen, and a soaking tub are some of the things we love best. There is also a small woodstove, which is the ultimate cozy-maker on cool Maine mornings & evenings. There is a large full bath downstairs, and a (literal) water closet in the upstairs loft for nighttime convenience. The upstairs bedroom loft has a queen sized bed, and there is a full size (brand new) sleeper sofa downstairs. Since the space is partially open, there is visual but not aural privacy between the two sleeping spaces. We welcome babes in arms and children over the age of 12, but because of the totally un-childproofed nature of our home, we do not recommend bringing young children. It's been our experience that the cottage generally works best for 2-3 guests.
Guests have access to miles of hiking trails that are maintained by the Freeport Conservation Trust. There is also a lovely renovated barn which serves as a yoga/meditation studio for those who are so inclined (Yoga and/or dance classes are offered throughout the week). There are a washer and dryer on site. The Cottage is our full-time home, so some drawers and closets contain our things~ however, we'll be sure to leave you plenty of room to unpack and make yourself at home.
Interaction with guests
During your stay, we'll be in another house on the property. We will be available should you need anything, and we are happy to recommend our favorite activities and spots. We are friendly, but we respect you privacy.
We ask that you leave the space as you found it, and care for it as it were your own while you're here. This is a great spot for conscientious people looking for a home away from home. It's probably not a good fit for folks that are looking for a weekend of wild partying (though we appreciate those too sometimes, this just isn't the place for it).
Specifically, we ask that you:
1. Refrain from smoking in the house or on the property.
2. Take any food items with you when you leave.
3. Use appropriate trash & recycling containers.
Cancel up to 24 hours before your trip and get a full refund. Cancel within 24 hours of your trip and the first night is non-refundable.
Jefferson is a writer and adjunct professor of English at a local Community College. Sarah is a psychotherapist in private practice. We both enjoy quotidian pleasures like an excellent piece of toast, watching the birds and butterflies around our house, cooking and sharing delicious meals with family and friends, mowing the lawn, and riding our bicycles on these hilly back roads. We've created our home around these sensibilities, and we hope you'll feel as cozy and inspired in it as we do.
