Beauty and simplicity characterize this peaceful cottage. Set amid nearly 200 acres of conservation land but within three miles of the shops and restaurants of coastal Freeport, the cottage makes for a perfect getaway.

The space

Filled with light and natural wood, this home has the simple beauty of a seasonal cottage with all of the luxuries of home. Cozy reading spots, a well-equipped kitchen, and a soaking tub are some of the things we love best. There is also a small woodstove, which is the ultimate cozy-maker on cool Maine mornings & evenings. There is a large full bath downstairs, and a (literal) water closet in the upstairs loft for nighttime convenience. The upstairs bedroom loft has a queen sized bed, and there is a full size (brand new) sleeper sofa downstairs. Since the space is partially open, there is visual but not aural privacy between the two sleeping spaces. We welcome babes in arms and children over the age of 12, but because of the totally un-childproofed nature of our home, we do not recommend bringing young children. It's been our experience that the cottage generally works best for 2-3 guests.

Guest access

Guests have access to miles of hiking trails that are maintained by the Freeport Conservation Trust. There is also a lovely renovated barn which serves as a yoga/meditation studio for those who are so inclined (Yoga and/or dance classes are offered throughout the week). There are a washer and dryer on site. The Cottage is our full-time home, so some drawers and closets contain our things~ however, we'll be sure to leave you plenty of room to unpack and make yourself at home.

Interaction with guests

During your stay, we'll be in another house on the property. We will be available should you need anything, and we are happy to recommend our favorite activities and spots. We are friendly, but we respect you privacy.

We ask that you leave the space as you found it, and care for it as it were your own while you're here. This is a great spot for conscientious people looking for a home away from home. It's probably not a good fit for folks that are looking for a weekend of wild partying (though we appreciate those too sometimes, this just isn't the place for it).
Specifically, we ask that you:
1. Refrain from smoking in the house or on the property.
2. Take any food items with you when you leave.
3. Use appropriate trash & recycling containers.

Very friendly and welcoming hosts, beautiful home with many thoughtful features in a gorgeous setting. Loved watching the birds from the comfort of the sofa in front of the fire. A good night's sleep was easy with the super comfy bed and peaceful location. Convenient location for exploring the area. Would recommend.

The photos are great-- the home itself is incredible. We came up for a long weekend for a wedding close by, and it was the perfect cosy retreat we wanted. There are extra blankets to snuggle into, coffee and tea for the morning, and you can even use the record player if you're nice :) Jefferson and Sarah were delightful, and super easy to communicate with. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

Jefferson and Sarah were lovely to meet and easy to communicate with. Their cozy getaway is truly that. Although we only stayed one night, we would surely recommend it. It's a beautiful, rural location, yet near Freeport and Portland.

This was a really awesome place! Has just everything you need and the whole cottage is built, designed and furnished just the way we would have done it. Felt like coming home! Jefferson and Sarah were great and helpful hosts.

Jefferson and Sarah made us feel immediately at ease by welcoming us to their home and giving us a tour. The cabin was perfect for me and my fiancee to spend the weekend! It was close enough to Freeport to be an easy drive in, but also allowed us to feel we were secluded. The cabin was very clean and they were extremely considerate about sharing their space. They were willing to give us great suggestions of places to visit and things to do in the area. Sarah was even nice enough to come light a fire for us one evening! If we visit this part of Maine again, we are definitely going to stay here again!

A great remote cottage that's still close to everything. Jefferson and Sarah were awesome hosts - very friendly and helpful. The location made for a great home-base to explore the mid-coast Maine area. The cottage was located on the same property as the host's home, but was a very comfortable distance away to offer plenty of privacy. The cottage itself was nice and very well kept, surprisingly spacious, and even had a great sleeping loft. Would definitely return!

This is a beautiful and newly renovated cottage on a huge, secluded, gorgeously maintained property about 20 minutes north of Portland. The photos don't really do it justice. Jefferson and Sarah were perfect hosts — super-friendly, respectful of our privacy, and eager to provide great recommendations for restaurants and activities. A+.

Jefferson is a writer and adjunct professor of English at a local Community College. Sarah is a psychotherapist in private practice. We both enjoy quotidian pleasures like an excellent piece of toast, watching the birds and butterflies around our house, cooking and sharing delicious meals with family and friends, mowing the lawn, and riding our bicycles on these hilly back roads. We've created our home around these sensibilities, and we hope you'll feel as cozy and inspired in it as we do.
