The house was more expensive than advertised on Airbnb by $85/night due to the season. Even with the increase I feel that the house was very good value for the quality and standard of the accommodation. The grounds were very picturesque and peaceful. Having said this I would not stay in the house again. The host is new to airbnb so the process isn’t yet smooth. I believe this may become better as she trusts the system but unfortunately I was the tester tenant and had my stay micromanaged and ruined. I was asked to sign a secondary contract when I arrived at management which is separate from Airbnb, I’m not quite sure of the exact wording as they kept the contract as said they would email me a copy (didn’t happen). I wasn’t allowed to access the property without signing the agreement. I was overcharged by a night as the host wasn’t sure how to change the booking so took the whole initial enquiry amount, this is bigger more stressful story which I’m to exhausted to go into but basically I am still trying to get overcharged amount back even though I am now in the UK. The house is an intense 15-minute drive from the beach; the roads are steep and un-level, loose ground. There are two particularly difficult approx. 45-degree sections of the road near to the house, which are not for the faint hearted. During my stay housekeeper came to the property to take photos of sand on the step of the pool to which I received an email from the host saying we had washed our shoes in the pool. This was not true. I felt like we had to defend our activities and take photos in the house as we were being monitored. When we arrived there was literally nothing in the house, you need to bring everything – soap, washing up liquid, washcloths, salt, oil. There are literally no basics and the shop is 40mins away. The gas ran out half way through the stay, I was later sent the following email: As far as the gas goes....we are paying to have a taxi bring out gas tanks to replace the other. As I highlighted in my instructions, you MUST turn off the valve behind the stove EACH time you (URL HIDDEN) is extremely important. The burners leak (very hard to get good stoves there) so, we implemented a system that not only conserves the gas but makes it safe. Firstly, this was the first time we had been informed that there is a known gas leak and secondly we always turned off the valve so we should not be scalded in capitals for simply consuming gas for 3 meals a day. The whole experience with the host caused me upset, aggravation and stress. I literally dreaded seeing an email pop up as it felt like a constant parental knuckle wrapping. It’s such a shame as the property is beautiful and unique.
