We loved this place so much and opted to forgo the fab SB restaurants and instead cook in the big airy kitchen and eat on the picnic table most nights. Just watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds from the patio and breathing the amazing ocean and chaparral air was the best part of our stay! We were looking for a retreat setting and really found it; I sketched and painted every day and my husband practiced and wrote music. The path to the beach is beautiful and meditative too. The bed was comfy with wonderful linens ceiling and floor fan and there are all sorts of shampoos etc. in the bath - so you don't need to bring much and Laurie offers to supply things you may have forgotten. It was fun to see what was in the organic produce basket and come up with meals from passionfruit, fresh herbs and veggies. We will definitely want to return, no question - thanks for being there!!

Beautiful, tranquil, safe, amazing. Laurie, her husband and staff were wonderful, we were treated to farm-fresh vegetables, fruits and eggs which we cooked up with pleasure. Sunsets and star-gazing are incredible. It's a pleasant walk to a private beach which we preferred to driving to various public beaches nearby. The location is brimming with life -- including critters and bugs, but you'll also see rabbits, goats, horses, an alpaca. We're considering getting a divorce just so we can get re-married there. Lovely spot!

Laurie's place is a well furnished simple ranch house walking distance to the ocean. It is a great place for laid back family time and hanging out with your dog. We loved exploring the greenhouses, visiting the farm animals (pigs, chickens, turkey, llama, goats,...), hiking, and playing with our lab on the beach. It is very secluded and the beach is lovely. Bring tar remover as the beaches in Santa Barbara can have tar on them. If you are looking for a relaxed place to reconnect with family, this place is wonderful.

Amazing location so close to beach (walk takes you over a railway line which is exciting- very few trains so felt very safe even doing so) and in a rural location so lots of birds to watch. The patio is a lovely relaxing place to sit. House is mainly comfortable - beds and lounge great - but kitchen could do with some work and did not feel properly clean. There is an a/c unit in lounge but even though July we only used it late afternoon each day. Temperatures were fine for sleeping in bed rooms with ceiling fans on. Plenty of space for family of four with two grown up children who wanted their own rooms. Convenient location close to freeway so even though quiet and secluded could get to shops within 10 minutes.

We loved the Orchid Farm house for our group of five. The Farm provided a wonderful, quiet spot with fun things for our teenagers to do and just enough comforts and provisions for us to make ourselves at home. We loved the easy walk to a private beach with great tidepool exploring. We enjoyed roaming around the farm, especially seeing the animals (many chickens, and a few pigs, goats, and an alpaca). It is a bit out of the way from Santa Barbara itself but a quick drive to UCSB and stores in Goleta - just what we wanted. A friend of ours who has lived in Santa Barbara for many years visited us and marveled at the solitude and beauty of the place, so close yet so far away! Do be aware that the house is right on the edge of the "farm" - really a cluster of greenhouses in the midst of a large parcel of land - and there are a fair number of folks living, working, camping, and otherwise coming and going from the place. The farm also is set up to host larger events such as weddings, though none occurred while we were there, and overall it felt very tranquil and quiet to us.

This is our third year up to the property for our staff retreat. We love it! It is so peaceful and beautiful and it allows us the space and beauty of scenery to build community and plan for our upcoming year.
