About this listing

Bright, quiet, double bedded room in friendly, charming flat with sunny garden overlooking beautiful coastline. Quick bus direct to New Town/Old Town/Royal Mile and brand new direct bus to airport only 4 mins walk away. A sociable cat is in residence & hens in the garden supply breakfast - no rooster, I promise! Very happy to help to make your visit smooth and successful with whatever information I can provide so you can get on with making the most of beautiful Edinburgh.

The space

This Trinity flat (not Leith, as per Air BnB's automated system) is part of a Victorian villa with manicured shared gardens to the front and a well-tended, private garden to the rear, which has spectacular views over the Firth of Forth and across the water to Fife. The quiet, bright bedroom for guests has a wonderfully comfortable bed, good reading lights, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, armchair and table by the window. Guests repeatedly report getting some of the best nights of sleep that they have had in years! The combination of being close to the heart of a World Heritage city and the having beautiful sea views that make Scotland so special, offers a unique experience while staying in Edinburgh.

Guest access

Guests will have access to a bright modern bathroom with power shower and large bathtub, a comfortable sitting room with fireplace when the colder weather arrives, a well-appointed kitchen (with some advance coordination as to timings to ensure availability), wifi throughout, free safe parking immediately outside, and, most enjoyably, a lovely garden with outdoor seating, BBQ and superb views. Check in and departure may be more flexible if other guests aren't departing/arriving on the same day.

Interaction with guests

I have traveled extensively and understand there are times when I have had a thirst for knowledge from tiny practicalities to a better understanding of the culture, architectural, history, politics and identify of the place I am visiting. I also know there are times when I just want to be left to sit with a cup of tea or glass of wine, a book and a view. I am more than happy to accommodate either as the mood takes you.

Other things to note

Probably worth noting that I have some expertise in architecture history so am happy to give an overview of the wonders of Edinburgh and Scotland. I have frequent visitors from all over the world so can answer most tourism and transport questions you may have. I also have been a restaurant critic for many years so can provide useful knowledge as required. The garden is there to be enjoyed and when the weather is good you may be tempted to light up the BBQ. I entertain regularly, have catered and enjoy cooking so if you would like an evening meal at any time or a packed picnic I am happy to provide subject to agreeing a reasonable cost and a bit of notice. This might also suit late arrivals if you just can't face heading out into the world again. Please let me know in advance your breakfast preferences and any allergies or food intolerances you may have. It is easy to adapt to suit and the most important thing is that you feel contented.

Check in is anytime after 11AM

The rules in my non-smoking home are pretty simple and rather what you would expect of friends you would invite to stay. Please make yourselves at home and treat my flat and pets kindly. Enjoy a drink in the garden or a cup of tea on the sofa, but do remember this is a fairly quiet residential neighbourhood when in the gardens in the evenings or returning late at night.

My daughter (9 years old) and I truly enjoyed our time at Courtney's house. We appreciated her comfort with having guests in her charming / Bohemian home. She made us feel right at home and was eager to give whatever advice she could, but also to give us space if that's what we wanted. I really appreciated having coffee made in the morning along with a yummy breakfast of FRESH eggs, homemade bread, and homemade jams. We sat in the sitting room looking through the window that is shown in her description and watched the activity on the channel as we ate breakfast each morning. It was truly lovely. If you have time to sit and read, this would be perfect for you. Her sitting room and bedroom are filled with thousands of books (literally). Courtney was wonderful with Lily and took her out to meet her hens. She even let Lily feed them some oats. It was adorable and has proved to be a highlight of our first week in the UK. The room was comfortable. There was a dresser with drawers you can use and a wardrobe with a bunch of hangers. It was nice to be able to hang some things up and get things out of suitcases. I LOVED how safe and quiet the neighbourhood was. I was NEVER concerned walking at night which Lily and I ended up doing every night we were there (3 nights). We were walking around the neighbourhood as late as 11pm and I didn't think twice about our safety. In fact, several "neighbours" helped us with directions as we made our way to bus stops and pubs for dinner. In addition, the neighbourhood was beautiful with gorgeous old homes and lovely little gardens everywhere. You can get to the water's edge in less than 5 minutes of walking. Getting down to the centre of town took us about 20-25 minutes when combining a wee bit of walking and one single bus. We found that very convenient and left our car at Courtney's rather than trying to find parking etc in town. It was nice to just sit up in the top of a double decker bus and see the sites. In all it was a delightful stay. Thank you, Courtney! We will have memories for a long time. Say 'hi' to Clinger, Roslyn and Gwendalyn for us!

I can't recommend Courtney's place highly enough! The house is lovely with a great sea view. Courtney herself is a wonderful host, going out of her way to give travel suggestions and make breakfast. The place is well connected by public transport.

Lovely host. Wonderful view of the see. Quiet neighborhood. And cute cat and hens.

Courtney is a very generous, charming host. We absolutely loved staying with her. The bed was comfortable and quiet. Just what you need for a good nights sleep. She gave us a lovely breakfast with eggs from her own hens and homemade bread which was delicious. We will definitely stay again!!

This is the 3rd time I visit Edinburgh, but this time with a small twist of choosing Courtney's place as our home; not just a house. The wonderful house, with front garden, and a back garden overlooking the firth of forth estuary, which is something you do not want to miss seeing on a morning with a cup of warm coffee. The inside was even more accommodating and intriguing with all the books and music to feast your eyes and ears. Though, what makes this place special is Courtney herself; accommodating and all in all a wonderful person to meet. The place is 2 minutes away from a bus stop that takes you to heart of Edinburgh, which was very convenient. All in all this was a trip to remember, thank you Courtney!

Response from Courtney:
Imad, thank you so much for your very kind words. It was an absolute delight hosting you and your sister and I hope you will come back in future. And please bring your parents who I would love to meet and to feed.

I love to visit new places, cook new dishes and delve into new books and tested favourites. I don't own a TV and I am not into the social media website that has become so popular that a movie was made about it nor the website that feeds 140 character messages (did you notice you cannot name other websites on the AirBnB system? - hence my descriptions) or the like. Would much rather see friends in 3D, sharing a cup of tea and something delicious to nibble, or go to the pub and watch real life unfold before my eyes.
I have enjoyed my first summer season of hosting guests and have been rewarded with interesting, curious and kind people who I have very much enjoyed meeting and introducing to the wonders of Edinburgh. And it's rather a lot of fun to feed everyone as well and it gives me a good excuse to bake!
