The space
COVID-19 Note:
While we are all needing to be very cautious, I will be blocking the day before you will arrive as soon as you make your reservation. In this way, I can be sure to follow the recommendations of the CDC and Airbnb to make the house as safe for you as possible. Also, I've increased the cleaning fee a bit to help pay for the extra cleaning time. I use an approved non-toxic virucide called Pure Green 24.
Ashland has definitely seen many changes since mid-March. We are all thankful people have been very careful wearing masks and social-distancing. The Shakespeare Festival is hoping to reopen for the fall season 2021. Writing this on January 6, shops are open and the many restaurants provide curbside take out (a few have heated outdoor seating). Grocery stores have done a wonderful job setting up protections and people must wear masks when they shop.
Our beautiful Pacific Crest Trail is open at all the nearby trailheads, with the crisp clear air and deepening snow. People come up to hike or run, maybe one car at the trailhead during the week and two on the weekend (more or less). Mt. Ashland's trails are accessible by foot, snowshoes, skis and snowboards until it all opens up again in late spring.
Mt. Ashland Ski Area is handling the pandemic by limiting the number of passes available each day and asking people to "bring your own lodge," in other words your vehicle. The lodge is open for ski school participants. So, be sure to reserve your passes early (and equipment if renting)!

The house is located on the Siskiyou Summit just south of Ashland, part of our Mt. Ashland Homestead. Especially during this time of great difficulties due to the pandemic, here is a place to find comfort, ease and pleasure in the midst of high mountain forests.
The forty acres of forest (unlogged) are the site of the historic old wagon (and early automobile) road, now our driveway, crossing the summit from Oregon to California. This has been our family home since 1982, and we've been caring for this peaceful land ever since. We are part of the bird flyway and our forest is home to thousands of birds. Animals are primarily deer and fox. On the property there are three houses (the log house, the main house, and the pond house), all far enough away from one another to be private and secluded.
I live permanently on the property with my dog Kellen in the Pond House, together with my son Nico and his dog Wilfred. We enjoy meeting people and will be available if you need anything during your stay. During this pandemic, we talk outside about 10 feet apart.
The Forest House will also be rented at times, but has a separate driveway, parking and entrance, with forest in between. The Log House has a key pad entrance so you can check in even if we're not home when you arrive. The central heating is adjustable to your comfort. Many guests like to enjoy a fire in the wood stove mornings and evenings. All details for getting to the house, getting into the house, using the WiFi, house rules, and everything else will be available to you upon booking in a detailed itinerary section.

Guest access
Guests will have access to the Log House, the seasonal sauna (a sauna is an additional $25, payable through Airbnb), the gazebo, the pond, and the entire property.

Other things to note
If you are bringing a dog or dogs, there is a dog fee of $25 per dog. We ask that you limit the number of dogs to two and always stay with them when they are outside. As you can understand, it's important that dogs are quiet and very friendly with people and other dogs. Due to allergies, we can't allow cats.

Also, the wood-fired sauna is readily available during sauna seasons (when the fall rains have begun). Sauna fee is $25. Please let us know in advance and we will help you get it fired up.

Location

Ashland, Oregon, United States

The Log House is situated far from any neighbors, making this the perfect quiet retreat. On the 40 acres of forested private land, there are two ponds, some walking trails, a seasonal sauna that can be used upon request, a gazebo lovely for hosting family dinners, and great view points of Mt. Ashland, Mt. Shasta, and the surrounding mountain ranges. Within five minute walking distance is a Pacific Crest Trail trailhead for hiking, or endless trail running. Great bike rides take you up to Mt. Ashland or down to Emigrant Lake on beautiful roads with few cars.
From about Christmas through at least the end of February, one can usually play in the snow here at the house. Build sled runs and snowmen, snowshoe or cross-country ski (I have many snowshoes, and x-country skis are rented in town).
Mt. Ashland Ski Area of course has rentals for all levels and is open December through March. May through November, the mountain offers beautiful alpine hiking, mountain biking, huge wildflower meadows, and views of mountain ranges in all directions. The forest road opens up to vehicle travel as well.

Hi. I'm Micheline. At present I work as the landscaper/horticulturalist for a private park. And caring for this piece of mountain land that my two sons and extended family love so well. I love long backpacking trips, hiking, skiing, reading, friends and a good conversation. Being somewhat eclectic, I've been co-director of Stillpoint Foundation (with Gia-fu Feng), a potter, cultural anthropologist, and teacher/assoc. professor. I look forward to getting to know you! (:
