Interaction with guests

I'll usually be around to make sure you settle in nicely and greet you :) if not I have simple instructions for a lockbox with keys in the building for self check in.

Other things to note

This is an original apt in a true pre-war Brooklyn building they don't make them like this anymore unfortunately so you'll have real beautiful hardwood floors and high ceilings with original details and solid walls with lots of light and space, these kinds of places can and do come with some light wear and tear of course but that's what gives it its charm, so if you're looking for a cookie cutter brand spanking new squeaky clean condo like space this is not the place for you :)

Absolutely lovely, with amazing decor. Apartment set in a Brooklyn neighbourhood. Very accessible to public transport and some nice cafes/restaurants around the area. Very good value and good location for a break in New York.

Room was so clean and Sunshine cames in nicely. easy-access to c-train and g-train subway station. Ala gave us lots of information about nice places around.

Our stay at Ala's apartment has been fantastic. Her place is very spacious and Brooklyn style. It was very nice having breakfast every morning in such a New Yorker corner in the kitchen close to the window. The apartment is very well located in a nice neighborhood and very well connected. Ala is a great host, very kind and responsive, she was very helpful not only about her apartment but also providing advise and information about the city. We definitley recommend her place.

This was a very cute apartment, I was very pleased when we first arrived and the first night that we stayed there. The hot and cold water was a little sketchy and it was a little dusty but could overlook these as "quirks" or "charm" of an old apartment. On our 4th night out of 6 nights the only A/C unit, which is in the bedroom stopped working. Thankfully, there was a fan, but that was not enough to keep an apartment even slightly cool in July, basically just blew the warm air around. When I communicated this issue to the host that morning, she quickly responded, but we were questioned about how we were using it when we hadn't even touched it and told it "just needed a break" (even though that's not how air conditioning works...) we gave it a chance and kept it off during that day and it of course didn't work and when I told the host it didn't work she responded that she would have someone look at it after our stay. Therefore, we had two more nights of a very hot apartment and uncomfortable sleeping. Location was also a little far from a lot of the attractions of NYC, it is close to the subway but was quite a few stops from a lot of places. Overall, ok but wouldn't stay there again.

Response from Ala:
Hi Rachel!! Sorry again the AC broke after a few nights into your stay, these things do happen and my asking if you kept it on while you were out was me needing to know more information and details on why it was giving you issues when it was working perfectly fine before. It's a valid inquiry since it saves energy and not ideal to keep the unit on while no one is home. I'm sure you can understand this. We already have a new unit in place so it was changed instantly after your query. I did all of this immediately from another continent because I care :) The shower works fine you just have to give it a few seconds to find its temperature once you turn the water on, granted you never mentioned this to me during your stay otherwise I would've helped you find the best way to get the right temperature and balance as have other guests before you, if you're not too hasty after you turn it on and don't fiddle around too much with both temps then it is just fine, hot and cold work great. New York City is a commuter's town and if you're not ready to walk a little and hop on subways to get to places especially from Brooklyn then it's probably best to stay in the center of Manhattan somewhere. All of these details are clearly stated in my listing the C line is super close, only a few blocks away from the apt and takes only 20 mins to get to downtown so if that was too much for ya I hope that at least you got some great culture and adventure out of it!! Be well.
