Charming secluded Shelter Island Cottage. Three bedroom one and a half bath. Cozy and quirky, sleeping lofts in converted attic accessed by a spiral staircase built from a telephone pole. Half an acre surrounded by nature preserve and bamboo.
One bedroom dowstairs with queen sized bed, two quirky sleeping lofts/bedrooms in converted attic complete with skylights, accessed by hand hewn spiral staircase. Low ceilings upstairs! There is also a single bed on the porch.
Filled with artwork and love. Complete with cotton sheets and duvets, towels and toiletries, beach chairs and beach towels, toys and umbrella, cereal and coffee. Fully outfitted kitchen with blender, microwave, toaster oven, dishes and pots and pans.
D/W, W/D, and rugged deck and hammock. There is also a gas grill.
My children were here as babies and toddlers, however given the spiral staircase it is not suitable for small children. Babies not walking yet are a good fit. I am happy to say that as of today the outdoor shower is up and running!
There is also a kayak available as well as 4 clunker but working bicycles :)
Beaches four minutes by car, ten by bike. Center of island with easy access to groceries, restaurants, beaches, yet completely private and surrounded by nature preserve on three sides.

Other things to note
I am currently in process of completing the details of this house and (URL HIDDEN) has been in my family since 1970, and I am refurnishing, fixing, updating as I go along :)
Please respect the space and the furnishings, especially artwork, all by friends and family.
The expectation is that the house is left as you found it.
No smoking please.
I spent my summers from the age of four on Shelter Island. The past 18 years I spent getting married, having three kids, and renting out my house, and the whole time I missed Shelter Island. After my life starting going through some major changes I decided I wanted to take back my house, enjoy furnishing and using it, and also rent it short term so I could spend time there with my kids. I know of nowhere else that you leave your car unlocked with the keys inside when you go the the beach, and where everyone becomes a familiar face in days. How charming life can be when simplified. Shelter Island is the perfect place to unwind, spend time alone or with a loved one, or enjoy family time.
Along these lines the house is currently WITH wireless internet, but no TV. I feel like everyone has a laptop at this point, or other electronic device they can bring with them. I am a big reader, and after a conversation with my kids we decided to try it this way. If I find that this is a make or break for potential renters, I will get a television. Please feel free to give me your input on this!
Because I use the house myself the refrigerator and pantry have food and basics, like coffee, eggs and cereal, which my guests are welcome to help themselves to.
I am working toward having a couple of kayaks available, I just bought the first which lives on Wades beach and is a single seater and a lot of fun. I also have 5 older bikes, perfect for riding around the island. This is a very unique and cozy space, the bedrooms upstairs are more like sleeping lofts with slanted ceilings.
