Charming secluded Shelter Island Cottage. Three bedroom one and a half bath. Cozy and quirky, sleeping lofts in converted attic accessed by a spiral staircase built from a telephone pole. Half an acre surrounded by nature preserve and bamboo.

The space

One bedroom dowstairs with queen sized bed, two quirky sleeping lofts/bedrooms in converted attic complete with skylights, accessed by hand hewn spiral staircase. Low ceilings upstairs! There is also a single bed on the porch.
Filled with artwork and love. Complete with cotton sheets and duvets, towels and toiletries, beach chairs and beach towels, toys and umbrella, cereal and coffee. Fully outfitted kitchen with blender, microwave, toaster oven, dishes and pots and pans.
D/W, W/D, and rugged deck and hammock. There is also a gas grill.
My children were here as babies and toddlers, however given the spiral staircase it is not suitable for small children. Babies not walking yet are a good fit. I am happy to say that as of today the outdoor shower is up and running!
There is also a kayak available as well as 4 clunker but working bicycles :)

Guest access

Beaches four minutes by car, ten by bike. Center of island with easy access to groceries, restaurants, beaches, yet completely private and surrounded by nature preserve on three sides.

Interaction with guests

Available for phone or email/texts.

Enjoyed the low-key vibe and peace and quiet of this pretty location~ perfect for a short bike ride to the beach or relaxing in a hammock! The home is as it appears in the photos, with some additional little green / garden areas around the property

Victoria could not have been nicer and everything was as described-- in fact better.

This is a very charming, cozy old house, surrounded by dense vegetation, somewhat secluded and very private, yet just a few minutes drive from everything--Shelter Island is fairly small. It is very well equipped, including bicycles and all beach gear one can think of. Victoria is very easy to reach and very generous with tips and suggestions of where to go and where to eat, which we followed quite closely. We would be happy to come back at one point.

Our party of family and friends had a fun time staying at Victoria's place. It's a secluded, quaint, comfy, and clean place surrounded by nature. We cooked, read, played board games, and slept like babies. If you're looking for relaxation in a country setting this is your place. Communication with the owner was easy and fast. Hope to be back some day.

budget accommodation. pluses were lots of bikes, house stocked with stuff . minuses were it is there is no air conditioning, it is somewhat run down, in need of repairs and maintenance etc. The second bathroom was not very functional and the main bathroom had a clogged drain that was annoying. It is far from any amenities on the island

I spent my summers from the age of four on Shelter Island. The past 18 years I spent getting married, having three kids, and renting out my house, and the whole time I missed Shelter Island. After my life starting going through some major changes I decided I wanted to take back my house, enjoy furnishing and using it, and also rent it short term so I could spend time there with my kids. I know of nowhere else that you leave your car unlocked with the keys inside when you go the the beach, and where everyone becomes a familiar face in days. How charming life can be when simplified. Shelter Island is the perfect place to unwind, spend time alone or with a loved one, or enjoy family time.
Along these lines the house is currently WITH wireless internet, but no TV. I feel like everyone has a laptop at this point, or other electronic device they can bring with them. I am a big reader, and after a conversation with my kids we decided to try it this way. If I find that this is a make or break for potential renters, I will get a television. Please feel free to give me your input on this!
Because I use the house myself the refrigerator and pantry have food and basics, like coffee, eggs and cereal, which my guests are welcome to help themselves to.
I am working toward having a couple of kayaks available, I just bought the first which lives on Wades beach and is a single seater and a lot of fun. I also have 5 older bikes, perfect for riding around the island. This is a very unique and cozy space, the bedrooms upstairs are more like sleeping lofts with slanted ceilings.
