Our large Queenslander is 4 km from CBD close to bus routes. It is cool, comfortable & has some inspiring views. You will have access to Internet, modern kitchen, cosy lounge, inside & outside dining, spacious bathroom, pool table/games area, library, laundry.

The space

The bedroom in this large Queenslander style house is very spacious, air conditioned and private. There is a very comfortable queen bed and single bed, writing desk, dresser and plenty of hanging space. All linen and towels are provided and are washed and dried after each guest.

Guest access

Guests have acces to all facilities including a modern kitchen, lounge, laundry (washing machine and dryer). The guest bathroom is shared only with my 14 year old daughter. Wireless internet and a computer are available for your use. The large family area downstairs has a pool table for a bit of fun and library if you wish to read a book. The library also contains some children's books.

Interaction with guests

We value your privacy, so how much we interact with you is your choice. Some guests prefer a lot of interaction, while others enjoy more time to themselves. Our spacious home allows for flexibility and you are welcome to come and go as you please because we understand that people are different and we value that difference. Acceptance and respect for others is foremost. We are LGBTI friendly.

Other things to note

A complimentary airport pickup and drop off can usually be arranged depending on my work schedule. However, where we are able to do a pickup, to avoid delays and car parking fees we ask that you: 1) text us when your plane lands; 2) wait OUTSIDE the terminal in the pickup area. Please note that there are two different terminals - domestic (T2) and international (T1) so we will need to know at which terminal you are waiting.

A continental breakfast is also available on request for an extra $6 pp/day (payable on arrival please). Please be sure this is what you want because we buy fresh food items in readiness.

Some tour companies will not pick up from private residences but will pick up from Hotels, so when booking tours please use the Cairns Southside International, 450 Mulgrave Road as your pickup location (4 minutes walk).

Anne is very nice to pick up us from the airport, and showed us around the city. The place is tidy and quiet. It is close to city center, and the bus station is very close to the house. The room is big and bright. It is exactly like in the picture. My parents and I had a great stay in Anne's place. Highly recommended!

Great experience to share the home with Anne & Kerry's family. Very open people who make you feel very welcome and at home. When in Cairns and travelling with a family, probably the best place to stay!

In my opinion, Anne was not a very hospitable host. asking for our passports as soon as I got out of the car and insisting on taking copies & keeping them for her own records is not okay. I did mention this to Anne and also mentioned that I would reach out to AIRBNB. On a positive note, the room was large & spacious. My comments to Anne is to please "tone down".

Response from Anne:
I would point out that, due to their instant complaints about our check-in process, copies of the passports for these guests were NOT retained by us. Nevertheless, as I explained on the day, our pre booking message on Airbnb clearly states that “ALL guests are required to provide passport identification on arrival” (this condition is now also included in our ‘rules’). In our experience, making a copy of a guest passport is standard practice in many places throughout Europe and Asia (some places even hold the passports for the duration of a stay). We see it as a way to protect both our guests and our family because we know exactly who our guests are if something were to happen. As our place is a “homestay”, guests have contact with our child and access to almost the entire house containing all of our possessions. While 99.9% of the time everything runs smoothly, we need to be mindful of the 0.01% when it might not. Unfortunately, this guest seems to take the approach that his ‘verification’ with Airbnb is sufficient even though: •Airbnb only gives a host the name of the guest who makes the booking; •Airbnb does not provide the host with names, or conduct verifications, for additional guests – in this case a wife and daughter; •Airbnb does not conduct any kind of criminal check; •We collect NO credit card details; •Our personal insurance requires us to record details of guests in our home; •He had NO reviews and had only been a member on Airbnb for two months. On the other hand we have been listed on Airbnb for three years and have 55 positive reviews. Having said this, his family were otherwise respectful of our home (they were out most of the time) and left the room clean. Nevertheless, I would not recommend this guest for a homestay style of accommodation. My comments to Francis are reciprocated, “please tone down”.
