Vintage arty decor, vinyl collection. Access to laundry with dryer and washer. Located in the heart of old-town Rouen. (No patio)All sites to see accessible by foot, eateries and bars just around the corner. Bakery down stairs. By foot- Train station 10 mins, CHU 5mins, markets 3mins, FREE PARKING 5mins. :)

The space
If you are looking for a genuine home for your time in Rouen, make ours your own! Our apartment is within a 300 year old building, and we have lovingly renovated. We have also spent a lot of time and thought with the decor, having sought out unique second-hand items, from cabinets to lamps, and we have incorporated them with modern items like the comfy couch, and new heating system.
The couch is a quality convertible bed with a real mattress made for daily use. Bed linens and pillows are provided, and if you arrive late, I can have the bed pre made for you ready to jump in. The lounge area has a huge tv, with Netflix and regular tv channels. You are also welcome to explore our vinyl collection and books.
The apartment itself is full of charm, huge oak beams cover the ceiling and walls. You will also notice that the floors and walls are all crooked! Just part of living in a 300 year old timber house.
Our kitchen is fully equipped with a full sized oven, full size fridge, induction stove top, toaster, stove top kettle, coffee plungers, and microwave.
Tea and coffee, sugar, and cooking oils are provided. You really have everything that you could need to cook for yourselves, as we have lived here happily for more than two years, it's a place with its quirks and a lot of character.

The bathroom is clean and stylish with a decent sized shower and a towel heater. Towels and soap are also provided. Toilet paper too of course.
There is a closet with hanging space and drawers for your use. You will find inside an iron and ironing board, and a fan for those hot summer nights.

We have created a laundry on the ground floor of our building which is available for you to use free of charge just ask :) We just ask that you take care with these facilities and leave it tidy (This is a shared space with two other apartments)

**This apartment does NOT have an outdoor area/patio (despite comment by previous guest) But there is a beautiful park right nearby.

If you ever need anything, if you have a problem or a question, or even just need some local advice, we are always contactable by message, and are happy to help! Plus if we can not be there personally, our friend Alexis downstairs will be available in person, so don't be shy to send a message. :)

Where you’ll be

Rouen, Normandie, France

Our street is residential inner city. There is a bakery, supermarket, post office, and bank cash machine right out the front door. The apartment is perfectly situated to see all the sites of Rouen. Also close to CHU, a weekend farmers market, and only 10 minutes walk from the train station.
In our neighbourhood there are many great places to eat and drink just around the corner. Take a walk up Rue Eau du Robec (3 minutes by foot) and you will find restaurants and bars the whole way up. There is also everything that you could need for everyday life within walking distance, as just around the corner is Rue Armand Carrel, where you will find 3 great bakeries, a wonderful fromagerie, 3 butchers, 2 pharmacies, fresh seafood shop, chocolate shops, a weekend market where you can find some great local produce, and just past that is another very large super market.

We will provide you with a small map with some of these places marked by hand.

For your information if you want to do some planning in advance and look them up, here are a few of our favourite bars and restaurants.

Markette - A cosy and locally run restaurant, where you feel welcome. Small menu but that means its fresh and good! Mostly french style food but with international influences. Normally there is a vegetarian option on the menu :) Its located in a cute little street too.

L’Espiguette - A small and very popular resto serving French cuisine (best outdoor patio in town, so cuuute! ) - recommend making a reservation if it during the weekend, and ask for a spot on the patio if its nice weather

Cafe l’Epoque - Traditional style French Brasserie (It's like being in the movie Amelie ;) )

There are also two good noodle restaurants on Rue Eau de Robec,
Noodle Shop - Japanese style noodle
Larhman - Chinese noodles (handmade dumplings!)

For True french savory crepes (Galettes) we like - la Cornaelle on rue Eau de Robec (just around the corner from us), and La Régalière (a 15 minute walk away)

Bolibol -For a healthy and fresh option, we like Bolibol. Also very good vegan or vegetarian food options. The upstairs is cosy with really nice decor. Plus the food is delicious.

La Petite Auberge- French cuisine, traditional, and highly recommended in winter, because its so cosy! But they also have a patio for the summer months.

La Tavern Saint Amant- cosy old style tavern with late night food.

La Walsheim - French Germanic cuisine, great sour crout, plus MANY other options, theres something everyone. Family friendly and open late!

Le Trend Burger - GOOOOOD burgers with interesting options like the Normandy burger which includes camembert and apple!

Le Red Rooster - American style diner burger joint! But good quality. (Wouldn't recommend if you want to sit outside)

L’Oritano- our favourite little Italian place in Rouen. (And one of our favs in general) Lovely people, a genius Italian in the kitchen making his family recipes. Ever changing chalk board menu full of different little plates, you’ll want to try them all. Special mention for the homemade buffala! Yuuuum!!!

CrunchyMellow- if you just feel like a slice of pizza

La Couronne - The ultimate french dining experience. Traditional, a little old fashioned, a LITTLE pricely $$ and a pinch touristy BUT in saying that TOTALLY worth it. We are talking grey-haired waiter in a bow-tie opening a silver cloche and carving your fish for you. (Fun Factoid - this is the restaurant where Julia Childs first fell in love with French cuisine, and if you don't know who Julia Childs is watch the Meryl Streep movie 'Julie and Julia' or just google it ;) )
Tip: Order the Sol Mernier with a half bottle of Chablis.

Fujiya Sushi- nice Japanese restaurant, 15 minutes walk from the apartment.

ALSO something NOT TO MISS in Rouen- Place Saint Marc Markets (Fri, Sat, Sun), but specifically on SUNDAY (9am-1pm) you can go there and buy up some local produce, like cheese, ham, fruit, tapenades ETC find a seat in any of the little cafes surrounding the market place, and enjoy your market food right there on their tables, you just have to order a wine or beer or coffee from the cafe you are at. Its a great place to people-watch and get a sense of how the locals live.
TIP: It's a good idea to take a little wooden board/plate, and little knife with you. Just don't forget to bring them back home to our place please! ;)

Le Petit Bar- Tiny charming cocktail bar in 1930's style Great for an after dinner cocktail, or a date ;)

Vixen - a funky bar where you can drink, chat, eat some hot greasy nibblies. ;) I would just like to mention the consistently good playlist here too ;)

Le Trois Pièces - A bar with three levels, so plenty of places to find a seat, live music in the basement (entry fee for the concerts)

Le Saint Maclou - Lively and local. Family run, cosy bar. Often kitch French pop music is playing... and often french people singing and dancing along to said music! :) It's fantastic ;)

La Fée Torchette - Cocktails, and party atmosphere. Open later than most places, busy when it gets late.

Ghetto Blaster - Illumunated disco dance floor! Must I say more?! :D Old-school dance music (mostly 80's - 2000's), tiny and lively and fun.

Ragnar Brasserie Beer garden- A beer garden in a church ground! By 2023 there will also be a functioning Brewery inside the church, bar and restaurant. But for now make the most of this really cool place and have a drink in their garden :) A must.

La Friche Lucien - Set within the grounds of an old abandoned train station, this space has been taken over by an outdoor bar, food trucks, shipping containers turned into boutiques or DJ stations. There are lots of scheduled live events so be sure to look up the program online before you go. It's open only in the warmer months so check that online too. It's a little walk 15-20minutes, you'll have to cross the bridge to the left side! But its a nice walk and it worth it. Be sure to get your photo taken in the photo booth to remember the moment :)

Brazil - Great for a summer drink on the terrace.

Le Petit Verdot - Wine and cheese plate anyone?

Antico Caffé - Worth it for the location alone. It's in a charming cobble stoned town square facing the gorgeous Saint Maclou Church. Serving alcohol, coffee and meals and only open until 10 pm. It has a little Paris feel to it, because eveyone faces the same direction on the patio to admire the view and also people-watch.
My tip: Hot summer day = afternoon SPRITZ cocktail :)

La Son Du Cor - Very local place. Great in summer, sit outside and watch the games of 'Petanque' going on just next to you.

Station Service- A place with good coffee and an all day cooked breakfast!

Couleur Cafe- Good coffee (including lattes and cappuccinos) good tea list. Cosy for a winters day, and has a nice terrace for when it’s sunny.

Citizen- Great coffee. Serves Breakfast, lunch. Closed sundays.

Cafe L’Époque- Also mentioned in the restaurant section, but this is a nice place for a morning coffee, pick up a croissant or something in the boulangerie next door and sit down for a coffee in the Belle Époque. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time and traveled to Paris too! ;)

Antico Caffé - Sit on a Paris style patio facing the BEAUTIFUL Saint Maclou Church. Italian style coffees, cold drinks including alcohol. You can also get a bite to eat here, I haven't yet tried their meals so let me know! :)

Dame Cakes- if you like large tea cups, tasty cakes, and frills, this is the tea-house for you. (Its even just worth a look at the exterior of the building, very pretty)

Prélude café - Good for a coffee and a bite to eat. Plus its near our favourite record store ;) ;) Aaaaand when you're finished there you can go around the corner to see where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in the Place de Vieux Marché. Why not!

Le 106 - a great live music venue with a bar, located across the river in an old shipping warehouse. International line up, check their website for current concerts and ticket availability. (You can also buy tickets at the FNAC)

La Trois Piece- A bar with intimate live concerts downstairs, just up the street from the apartment.

Le Chapelle Corneille (or Cornelius Chapel) - A 17th century Chapel that hosts performances ranging from operas to electro dance music! This music venue offers some of the latest sound technologies, such as a HUGE sound-reflecting sphere (that also looks very pretty) Check online for tickets and concert line-up.

Opera de Rouen - We have an Opera House :)

The Fury Bar - Live music Friday and Saturday nights. Mostly rock, casual groovy place.

Hipster Cafe - Bar with live concerts - open until 2am (closed Mondays)

I am an Australian now living in France with my boyfriend Guillaume. I am an artist, I create works in Acrylic paint, and have been exhibiting my works for over 15 years. I am friendly, and open minded. Other than art, I love gardening, cooking, live music, a good conversation over a tasty coffee. I like to make an effort to enjoy the small things everyday. That’s important!
