Ciara's apartment is perfectly located in Ortigia, in very quiet street, though the neigbourhood is a little spooky at night. Monolocale was very clean and tidy, very well equiped and renovated. Everything was perfect except the absence of wifi, and the bed, which is actually a sofa. It is very uncomfortable to sleep like that, but we somehow managed to get some sleep by putting the matress on the floor.
We met Chiara just very briefly to get in the apartment, which is located on a great spot in Ortigia. A very authentic neighborhood and yet a modern apartment. Only thing we were slightly caught off guard was the fact it is a sofa-bed, not a proper bed. Was fine for 2 nights but we just couldn't realize by the description.
I enjoyed 3 nights in ortigia at chiara's place. The apartment is in a convenient location on a very quiet street. It is ground floor, so there are are no stairs, but also it is a little dark and not much breeze. The dark is nice for keeping it a little cool, and for sleeping in the morning. Ortigia is a charming island, I saw a puppet show, a boat tour, visited the papyrus museum, enjoyed aperitve at piazza duomo, and also visted the archeological sites in siracusa. There are several nice places to swim just steps from the apartment. It is easy to ride the local buses into the archeological areas. It seems hotter in siracusa, I think that ortigia is a better location for sleeping. Chiara graciously picked me up at the train station and drove me to the apartment. After finding it the first time it was easy to locate, but the streets are medieval in layout. It might have been difficult to find alone. The local bus goes to both the bus and train terminal about every 15 minutes. It says amare on the side, is small and white. The apartment was clean, had the things needed to make a breakfast and be comfortable. The air conditioner was broken at the time I was there. Other than that it was a nice place to stay, good value for the money, and the pick up at the train station in the heat of the afternoon was a lifesaver. I appreciate the warm welcome to an unfamiliar place when I didn't know my way around.
